South Overton is one of the city’s oldest neighborhoods, having getting its start in 1907 thanks to the efforts of Dr. M.C. Overton, a Lubbock pioneer and the city’s first full-time resident physician. Overton provided the land for development which was bordered by Fourth Street on the north, 19th Street on the south, University Avenue on the west and Avenue Q on the east. The area from Broadway n

orth to Fourth Street eventually became known as North Overton, while the area from Broadway south to 19th Street became South Overton. With the opening of Texas Tech in 1925, both areas began to grow and thrive.

Just took the dog for a run on Broadway and saw Texas Tech University kids getting out of Uber and Lyft near the University with open containers. I’d bet many are underage.

Is this what we want along Broadway on Friday and Saturday nights? As I walked toward Avenue Q, I saw more Tech kids walking around drinking beers like it’s no big deal.

We need police presence on Broadway. Let’s keep Broadway safe and crack down on underage drinking before someone runs into another opposing team's bus.
