Marines to be Awarded Center! MARCH

Recruiter of the Year Marine Ryan Brundage. Marine Brundage was in fierce competition this year against other Marines, and he came out on top. Great job, brother, on expanding our detachment.

Marine of the Year Marine Adrian Flores. Marine Flores's constant dedication, volunteering, and service has earned him recognition as this year's Marine of the Year.

Semper Fidelis Marines keep up the hard work.

A brotherhood that never ends

Last night, we welcomed 8 new members into our beloved Marine Corps League. Our Detachment is growing and we and will continue to be a home for our brothers and sisters.

If you've felt like you've been missing out on the brotherhood since you've gotten out I highly suggest that you come on by and see what we're about.

Gunny Hartman in Full Metal Jacket said it best, "Today, you people are no longer maggots. Today, you are Marines. You're part of a brotherhood. From now on, until the day you die, wherever you are, every Marine is your brother... But always remember this: Marines die. That's what we're here for. But the Marine Corps lives forever and that means you live forever."

All Hands on Deck!!
Marine in Need Update
We need a working party for this Saturday morning from 0800-1200 to help deconstruct Marine Jay Stratton's burnt RV so he does not get charged for it.
Please bring tools, torches, grinders and saws to help get this unneeded expense out from under the Stratton family. Hope to see yall there Saturday Morning.

Never forgotten

This past Wednesday, August 26, Marine Corps League South Plains Detachment 519 had the honor of joining the VFW, Purple Heart Chapter, The Leatherneck MC and the South Plains Honor Guard in paying our respects, and honoring the fallen.

They will live on through us. It is our duty as the living brothers and sisters to make sure that they are never forgotten.

Our Marines House Fire Update:
Commandant & the Chaplain met with Jay & Shelly last night and delivered a truck load of generous donations given to us by the local VFW Post Commander, Sarah Weede and her awesome group of Veterans.
The family expressed deep gratitude for the clothes and kitchen items. There wasn’t a dry eye in that room including us!
As we all held hands in a circle you could feel the healing spirit of the Lord in that room as the Chaplain called upon the Lord to bless this couple on their long, hard journey to recovery.
“Taking care of our own” is what we Marines do….always and without hesitation.
There was a Marine who lost his dress blues in a fire awhile back and Jay took care of him by building a wonderful wooden Dress Blues case made out of Purple Heart wood a couple years ago. So now we will take care of Jay and his family!
Semper Fidelis isn’t just a saying, it’s how we live and love as a family!

Please continue to donate money to our Zeffy account specifically for Jay as his hands are what he makes a living with but will need to heal for awhile before he can return to work. So they’ll still need $$ to sustain them.
Thank you to this great community and others from afar that have and continue to support our mission to “Take Care of our Own”
Semper Fi,
Gary Schwartzenberger

Emergency Relief for a Fellow Marine — House Fire Recovery

A South Plains Detachment #519 member lost his home in a fire this week and suffered burns. Help him get back on his feet.

A few days ago, a member of our Marine Corps League family lost his home in a house fire. He suffered burns in the fire and has just been released from the hospital — now facing the road to both physical recovery and rebuilding his life from nothing.

South Plains Detachment #519 is raising emergency funds to help him with immediate needs: temporary housing, clothing, medical costs not covered by insurance, and basic essentials as he gets back on his feet.

Every dollar raised goes directly toward his recovery. Funds will be disbursed by the Detachment under Board oversight, with a preference for paying vendors and providers directly to protect his privacy.

Semper Fi. Once a Marine, always a Marine — we take care of our own.

South Plains Detachment #519, Marine Corps League, is a 501(c)(4) social welfare organization. Donations are not tax-deductible as charitable contributions for federal income tax purposes.

Truly a different breed

When we earn the Title of Marine, we learn that the title is forever and that we as Marines are always there for each other.

Thank you to League members and associate members Bobby Lugo, Stephen Hall, Evy Perez-Bobb, and Paul Brooks for volunteering and supporting this months Operation Donuts at the Lubbock VFW. They're out here talking to fellow veterans, trading stories and representing the Marine Corps League well.

A special shout out to Marine Bobby Lugo for his continued work these past few months with Operation Donut. Give him one in the comments

Purple Heart Day

August 7th marks People Heart Day, a day to honor and remember U.S. service members who have been wounded or killed in combat.

Did you know Texas Tech was the first Purple Heart University? We are honored to attend this ceremony at a campus that honors and respects their veterans.

Thank you, TTU President Lawrence Schovanec, and Purple Heart Chapter 0900 Commander Steven Oien for putting this together.
