June marks PTSD Awareness and Men's Mental Health Awareness month.

There is often a negative stigma about the two—the idea that you're just being weak and need to suck it up, or that if you seek help, you are not a "real man."
That could not be further from the truth. Refuse to let these thoughts in your head. Don’t let them in to take over. It’s OK to seek help.

PTS is not a weakness, seeking help just means you are stronger than the demons you’re fighting. Struggling with mental health, or just struggling at times in life, only means that you are human. If you ever need help, reach out to someone….anyone, your friends, family, or fellow service members.

YOU ARE NOT ALONE.

You may be Outta The Corps but….You’re not Outta the Fight! Keep fighting….you ARE worth it.
You can also call or text the national crisis line at 988 988 Su***de & Crisis Lifeline.

Today is a day we should all take a pause.

It is a day that we should all put aside our differences and pay honor and respect to those who have either paid the ultimate price or who once volunteered to pay that price but are no longer here. They are the ones who provided us the freedoms we have; the freedoms of speech, religion, to vote, and so much more.

Today is not a day to be devisive, not a day to thank those who are still here but a day to remember the ones who are no longer with us.

So to those men and women who are no longer here with us, we at Marine Corps League South Plains Det 519 say thank you, we miss you, and until we meet again, Semper Fidelis.

A message from the Commandant of MCL South Plains Det 519

Marines, Corpsmen and Chaplains of Detachment #519,
As we approach Memorial Day and the community prepares to celebrate this weekend, I’d like to remind you to “Always Remember” those who have gone too soon before us. This Memorial Day is very special to me as a High School buddy that enlisted in the Corps 3 yrs after me recently passed away this week. His name is Cpl Lance Renville. As I called his wife to offer condolences, she inquired if my son (Marine Ssgt) had received a kidney yet. Then she told me she’d like to donate her husband’s kidney to my son. My son received the kidney last night and is in recovery rn. The saying that we Marines use all the time, “We take care of our own” has taken a new and deeper meaning for me.
If you’re struggling with life, your own ego, marriage, addiction, or whatever life throws at you….be the one that’s there for your brother/sister! Lift where you stand and serve each other this weekend by volunteering to help someone or somewhere. Selfless service to your fellow man/woman is truly the only place where you’ll find the peace that comes with service. Reach down and find it, and you’ll find yourself again! Honor them by your service to someone other than yourself.
We never fight alone!
Semper Fi,
Your Humble but Grateful Commandant
