The CMA of Texas began back in 1975 when James White (owner of the Broken Spoke in Austin, TX) and his friend and radio personality, Bud Fisher, began to hold recognition events at the Broken Spoke. In 2013, it took on official status with the State of Texas as a non-profit, expanding its reach with only one purpose in mind - to be a support tool of the independent artist who deserves recognition and encouragement to continue his/her artistic endeavor.

I think that Bend needs a sister city.
Terlingua would be the obvious choice.
I was getting tacos at La Posada Milagro in Terlingua.
It was an early morning preceded by a self-inflicted fog.
It was early.
Early.
I had to get back to the other Bend.
I sat on the porch by the Starlight eating tacos.
Roger and Rory appeared in the parking lot.
Asleep or not yet slept.
We said our hellos.

I drove fast back to the Bend General Store.
It was a Friday.
I stepped out of the truck in time for running sound and facilitating whatever it is I do here.

I left Terlingua in the morning.
I drove fast.
When I stepped out of the truck in Bend, I was greeted by an assemblage of characters not unlike the place I had left.

The irony did not escape me.

I smiled for sure.

Anyway, our friend Roger was strumming here this last weekend.
I handed him Ray Wylie Hubbard's guitar.

I tell people that Roger belongs in a different century.
He can't be labeled a miscreant for his indifference towards vehicle registration stickers and such.

When I first met Roger, he had a a registration sticker in his window that he had drawn himself.

Frankly I think it looked better than the official sticker.

Roger played with Joel Allan this weekend and boy were they simpatico.

I realize after writing this that I cannot remember the point of my narrative.
He did play a song for Karen, and she seemed a little week in the knees.
