✨ Growing Together, the Salesian Way 💙

Yesterday, our Salesian Youth Group gathered again for an evening of reflection, prayer, and planning.

We revisited the “gift” we are offering Don Bosco this year—a personal commitment to work on something specific within ourselves. Those who missed last week’s meeting also had the opportunity to choose and share their personal goal for this school year. 🌱

We also offered a special prayer for our recent graduates who are beginning a new chapter in college and university. 🎓🙏

Our youth then started brainstorming and planning for the months ahead: next Tuesday’s meeting, what we will sell on October 4 to raise funds for St. Mary’s Parish, Friendsgiving in November, our mission trip to Tijuana during Thanksgiving weekend, our December Posada, and our Christmas White Elephant celebration. 🇲🇽🤝🎄🎁

More than planning activities, we are creating opportunities for our young people to take ownership, serve others, grow in leadership and faith, and strengthen our Salesian community.

Don Bosco, pray for our young people! 💙

Inspiring the Next Generation of Latina Leaders

What a special opportunity for three young women from our youth programs to attend the 2026 Latina Public Service Academy Summer Reception! ❤️

Our young leaders had the chance to meet, listen to, and learn from incredible Latina professionals and public servants, including:

🌟 Senator Lena A. Gonzalez, California State Senate District 33, represented by Elsa Ibarra
🌟 Evelyn Cortez-Davis, P.E., BCEE, Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP), represented at the event by Estafanie
🌟 Dr. Yasmin Davidds, Leadership Expert, Organizational Psychologist & Entrepreneur
🌟 Amanda Gonzalez, SoCal Grantmakers
🌟 Vanessa Aramayo, President & CEO of Alliance for a Better Community
🌟 Amor Vidal Morrell, MBA, Delta Air Lines
🌟 Latina Board Members & Executive Leadership of the Los Angeles Latino Chamber of Commerce

Our girls also had the wonderful opportunity to speak with Los Angeles City Councilmember Monica Rodriguez. 💫

It was especially meaningful to reconnect with Brisa Sotelo, who was part of our center years ago and today continues to be a great friend and ally, always helping us connect our youth with opportunities like this. ❤️

A very special THANK YOU to Ana Cubas, who leads the Latina Public Service Academy, for continuing to open doors and create spaces where our young Latinas can meet role models and imagine themselves as tomorrow’s leaders. 🙌🏽

We are also grateful to the many organizations and partners supporting this important work, including Jacobs, Verizon, Athens Services, Veritas, Kroger, AltaMed, Valero, SoCalGas, and the Los Angeles Latino Chamber of Commerce.

For our young people, being present in these spaces sends a powerful message:

You belong here. You can lead. And your community needs your voice. ❤️✨

🙏💙 Our Salesian Youth Movement of Boyle Heights welcomes our new Provincial!

This past Monday, a delegation from our Salesian Youth Movement of Boyle Heights had the joy of participating in the Installation Mass of our new Provincial, Fr. Joe, SDB.

Several young people from our programs were able to represent our community at this special celebration, joining the Salesian Family in prayer and welcoming Fr. Joe as he begins this new mission of service and leadership. 🙏

After Mass, we spent a few moments at the reception at St. John Bosco High School, sharing in the joy of this important day. And, in true Salesian spirit, we ended our evening together with a quick treat at the original McDonald’s! 🍟🥤😄

A beautiful day of faith, Salesian family spirit, friendship, and youth leadership. May God and Mary Help of Christians accompany Fr. Joe in this new chapter of his ministry! 💙🙏

💙 Homeless Outreach | Skid Row 💙

This past Sunday, August 23, we came together for our monthly Homeless Outreach. A special thank you to all our young volunteers, especially the youth from the SHOUT Program at Roosevelt High School, St Mary’s, and St Isabel parish, for joining us in serving our community. 🙌

With the high temperatures in Los Angeles, our youth had the opportunity to distribute nearly 10 cases of water directly into the hands of people experiencing homelessness in Skid Row, helping them cope with the summer heat. 💧☀️

But our Homeless Outreach is about more than distributing water or food. Our main goal is to raise awareness among our young people and help them understand that they, too, share responsibility for building a better society.

They are the leaders of tomorrow, and we want to inspire them to dream of becoming leaders who practice social justice, stand up for the dignity and rights of others, and work for the well-being of the people around them. ❤️

📅 Join us for our next Homeless Outreach on Sunday, September 27!

This past Tuesday, August 18, our Salesian Youth Group gathered at the beach around a bonfire 🔥🌊 to celebrate Don Bosco’s birthday! 🎂💙

It was a beautiful evening of community, reflection, and Salesian joy. Gathered around the fire, we even sang “Las Mañanitas” to Don Bosco as part of our celebration! 🎶🎉

We reflected on Don Bosco’s life, his mission, and the incredible historical impact his work has had on generations of young people around the world. As a birthday gift to Don Bosco, 🎁 each young person made a personal commitment to work on and improve something specific in themselves during this school year.

A special thank you to our Salesian Cooperators of Boyle Heights who helped make this evening possible. Ana Anguiano generously donated the firewood for our bonfire, and Miriam Hernández, Salesian Cooperator, accompanied us throughout the evening and helped drive and transport our young people. Thank you for always supporting our youth and our Salesian mission! 🙏💙

We also received a special gift from Colombia 🇨🇴: a small medal of the Divino Niño, brought from the Sanctuary of the Divine Child in Bogotá.

Happy Birthday, Don Bosco! 🎂🔥 May we continue your dream by growing, serving others, and bringing joy and hope to the young.

Don Bosco, pray for us! 💙

💙💛 HELP US HELP!

This Sunday, August 23, we invite our young people to come together for a morning of service! 🙌

🥪 We’ll meet at 8:00 AM at St. Mary’s Parish Hall to prepare sandwiches and then take them to Skid Row, where we’ll serve our brothers and sisters in the community.

We need young volunteers ready to give their time, energy, and heart. Bring a friend and join us in making a difference—one sandwich at a time. ❤️

Let’s be the hands of Jesus. Let’s build hope together!

In our Friday Luis asks our youth: "what are you grateful for?" In the spirit of Ephesians 5:20 – "Giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ."

08/14/2026

Grateful!
1 Thessalonians 5:18 – "Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you."

Luis shares the story of St. Patrick, to remind us of how his faith helped him through his toughest times. Born in Roman Britain, St. Patrick was kidnapped by Irish raiders at age 16 and spent six years enslaved in Ireland but turned to deep prayer and his faith for comfort during his captivity. After escaping back to Britain, he returned to Ireland as a missionary to convert the pagan population
