📅 Save the Date!

On September 24, we'll be participating in Long Beach Gives, a community-wide day of generosity that helps strengthen local nonprofits—and we hope you'll join us.

Every gift made to Koinonia Family Services helps provide hope, healing, and support for children, youth, and families who need it most. Together, we can create brighter futures through foster care, adoption, mental health services, and family support.

🏡✨ A fresh space for new memories.

We recently gathered with our community to celebrate the remodel of one of our residential homes for youth—and what a beautiful transformation it has been!

This home is more than refreshed cabinets, updated spaces, and a new look. It’s a place where young people can feel safe, supported, and at home while they navigate an important chapter in their lives. We’re so grateful to everyone who helped make this space feel welcoming, comfortable, and ready for the moments that matter.

A very special thank you to Beazer Homes, Timberlake Cabinetry, and Care West Insurance Company for investing in our youth and helping bring this remodel to life. Your generosity is creating a space where young people can build relationships, find stability, and make memories for years to come. ❤️

Thank you to everyone who joined us for this special open house and helped us celebrate what is possible when a community comes together for kids!

You don’t have to have all the answers. You don’t have to be perfect. You just have to be willing to show up, keep learning, and be there when a child needs you. 💙

Sometimes, the most meaningful difference we can make starts with simply being present.

The foster care needs in your community may be greater than you realize.💙

Every day, children, youth, and families in our local communities need support—but many people never hear about those needs because the information isn't reaching them.

That's why Koinonia offers customized information sessions for civic organizations, community groups, churches, businesses, and clubs. We bring local foster care data, share what's happening in your area, and discuss practical ways people can get involved.

Whether your members are interested in fostering, advocating, supporting, or simply learning more, these sessions help connect compassionate people with meaningful opportunities to make a difference.

⭐Want to host an information session for your group? Contact your local Koinonia office or email [email protected]

Together, we can turn awareness into action—right in our own backyard.

Many of the children and youth we serve have experienced hurt, loss, and disrupted connections. Healing doesn't happen through programs alone—it happens through safe, consistent, caring relationships. 💛

Whether it's a foster parent showing up day after day, a mentor offering encouragement, or a supportive community creating a sense of belonging, relationships have the power to help youth rebuild trust, discover their worth, and thrive.

At Koinonia, we believe every child deserves connections that foster healing, hope, and a brighter future.

From growing up at Koinonia to helping shape its future. 💙

Ian’s connection to Koinonia started when he was just 10 days old. He grew up surrounded by teens at Homes For Teens, later became a frontline staff member, and spent 14 years supporting young people through some of their hardest moments.

Along the way, he witnessed the power of second chances—including one full-circle story that reminded him why this work matters.

Today, Ian serves in Koinonia’s IT department, continuing to support the mission that has been part of his life for decades!

His story is a powerful reminder that the impact we make today can last for generations.

Fostering isn’t the right fit for everyone—and that’s okay.
We believe in being honest about the realities of fostering, not just the highlights. Children and teens in foster care deserve caregivers who feel genuinely prepared, supported, and ready for the responsibility that comes with this role.
There are many reasons someone may decide fostering isn’t the right time or path for them right now—and acknowledging that doesn’t take away from the importance of the need. In fact, it helps ensure that when families do say “yes,” it’s for the right reasons, with clear expectations and a strong foundation.
That said, many of the reasons people think they can’t foster can be overcome with the right support. You don’t need to have all the answers on day one. If you’re willing to learn, grow, ask questions, and be guided through the process, our team will be there every step of the way.
Swipe through to explore 10 reasons fostering may not be the right fit—and why clarity and honesty matter in this decision.

💙 If you’re curious about fostering, we’d love to help you explore whether it might be a fit for your family. Visit kfh.org to learn more and connect with our team.
💙 And if fostering isn’t the right path for you right now, there are still so many ways to make a difference. Whether through volunteering, donating, becoming a mentor, or advocating for youth and families, your support can help create brighter futures for children in our community.

Stress doesn’t stay contained in one part of life—it follows us into everything we do.
For students, especially those navigating challenges at home, it can be incredibly difficult to shift focus fully into the classroom. Their minds are often still working through what feels urgent, overwhelming, or uncertain outside of school.
Understanding this helps us respond with more compassion and less judgment—recognizing that attention is deeply connected to emotional safety and stability. 💙
