Support can shape everything for a young person in foster care. 💛

Many LGBTQ+ youth enter care after experiencing rejection or instability—carrying with them not just uncertainty, but the question: Is it safe to be myself here?

The answer they find can change the course of their lives.

When youth feel supported and respected, they’re more likely to build trust, develop confidence, and begin to heal. It doesn’t take perfection—it takes consistency, compassion, and a willingness to create a space where they don’t have to hide.

At Koinonia, we support and equip foster families to create safe, stable, and compassionate homes for every young person in their care.

Every young person deserves a place where they feel safe, valued, and like they truly belong. 🌈

Some children grow up knowing they’re safe, seen, or loved—but many don’t have that experience.

Every child deserves more than just getting by. They deserve stability, connection, and adults who keep showing up even when things are hard.

This is what foster care is really about: not perfection, but presence. Not having all the answers, but being willing to stay in the story with a child while they need you. 💙

Our Wraparound team had a great few days at the Partnerships for Well-Being Institute!

We were proud to see our very own Milton train more than 200 Wraparound professionals, and grateful for the opportunity to bring together staff from our Southern, Central, and Northern regions for an evening of connection.

Thank you to the generous donor who made this gathering possible, and to everyone who supports our team’s ongoing growth and learning. 💙

Foster care is about providing a loving, stable family for a child—no matter where their journey leads. While many families hope to adopt, the primary goal of foster care is healing and reunification whenever possible.
The term “foster to adopt” can sometimes create the expectation that fostering is simply a path to adoption. But the heart of foster care is standing in the gap for children and families, giving them the support, stability, and love they need. When families can heal and reunify, that’s a success.
💙 But what about when adoption is needed?
Sometimes, despite every effort, reunification isn’t possible. In those moments, adoption becomes a beautiful and necessary path to permanency and belonging when:
🌿 A child’s parents are unable to provide safe care, despite support.

🌿 No biological family members are available to step in.

🌿 The child needs a forever family to provide stability, love, and security.

The journey of fostering isn’t about waiting for adoption—it’s about being there for a child, in whatever way they need. And if adoption becomes part of that journey, it should come from a place of love and necessity, not expectation.
If we truly want to love these children well, we must also honor and support their families. Even when it’s hard. Even when it means saying goodbye. Because family isn’t something to be replaced—it’s something to be restored. 💙

Reunification isn’t perfect.

It takes time, support, and a lot of hard work behind the scenes.
There are setbacks. There are challenges. There are uncertain moments.

But when families are given the tools and support to heal—
it’s always worth it. 💛

Support doesn’t come from having all the answers—it comes from how you show up, every day. 💙

For many youth in foster care, especially those who have felt misunderstood or unsupported in the past, small moments of respect and consistency can make all the difference.

Listening without judgment.
Creating a safe environment.
Affirming who they are—through words and actions.

These aren’t big gestures—they’re everyday choices that build trust, safety, and belonging.

This Pride Month, we recognize the importance of homes where every young person can feel valued and supported, exactly as they are. 🌈
