Founded by an oncology nurse, SCF is 100% volunteer run to give those on the front lines of a cancer journey the gift of improving hospital stays for the patient and their caregiver & including them both in a tribe of others on similar paths.

Throwback to our ribbon ride in the spring! ☺️

We love creating an opportunity to bring awareness, movement, color, and joy to the cancer journey. (Or more specifically, our board chair Jessica Imlach loves to make these moments happen for us all!!)

At Small Choices, we know how hard it is — for patients, survivors, their caregivers / families, and the dedicated healthcare workers who give them their all. We watch cancer rearrange people’s entire lives every. single. day.

We also know that the journey can offer pockets of joy and connection when we have a community like this one rallying around us. What makes SCF special isn’t just what we do, it’s who shows up…time and time again.

So show up! Suit up! Just ONE WEEK until we make a measurable difference for Coloradans facing cancer at The Ribbon Run 5K on Sunday, Nov. 8.🎗️

Navigating cancer is tricky. So Small Choices delivered 150 treat bags for both patients and our beloved healthcare providers. We also gifted 5 comfort kits today, to sweeten a holiday spent inpatient. 👻🎃

Everything in the bag was hand-selected by a cancer survivor:

Halloween kicks off our busiest time of year! As the winter holidays keep rolling, so will SCF. We look forward to providing more joy, more comfort, and more support all season long.🧡

There are never enough opportunities to shout out this epic crew of board members. ❤️

Survivors, nurses, and caregivers band together to make Small Choices the impactful organization that it is. Lived experience inpatient, service experience at bedside, and way too much earned wisdom from outpatient treatment / navigating survivorship inform everything we do.

🧸💭 From dreaming big to thinking of every little thing we can do to help, these are many of the sweet souls who make sure Coloradans aren’t facing cancer alone and without resources.

Because you can’t know what someone might need unless you’ve lived it. And there is so much healing potential in giving back! 👏

Patty Klasko, momma to our angel tribe and board member, Seth, hand-cut these gorgeous 3D cards so patients can have flowers in their rooms. 🥹🌸❤️

Folks facing treatment are often extremely immunocompromised — fresh flowers are considered a threat to their immune system, so they’re prohibited on the inpatient floor. But there’s always a workaround! 💐

Josh and Ashley are on the mend from his second bone marrow transplant, and we’re hopeful this is their final cure. ❤️

In the thick of it, they still offered love, gratitude, and sweetness to the healthcare workers who took care of their family. At SCF, we half-joke that the only prerequisite for a cancer diagnosis is being an awesome person. Case in point! 🍰

We’re grateful the Fritts family is healing and graciously embraces being a part of our tribe.

A Day in the Life with our Director of Operations and AML Survivor, Scarlett! ☀️❤️

“Today I had the very real honor of returning to the UCHealth floor where I was treated, to deliver clean laundry and a comfort kit to patients undergoing Bone Marrow Transplant. One of whom, I share a transplant anniversary of Sept. 25 with. It’s always surreal, experiencing a full-circle moment on campus, connecting with patients who are in the thick of cancer treatment — the feeling is indescribable. Hearing our recipients say that our visit was helpful, showing them that the path forward is possible is sincerely the greatest gift.

7 years into survivorship, the whole experience still feels tender, but in a different way. I’ll never quite understand why I’ve been afforded the opportunity to be one of the privileged ones who gets well, but I always stop in the hospital gardens to pause and say ‘thank you’ to everyone and everything that helped me see this side of the journey.”

Small Choices is fortunate to have a dedicated tribe, board, and volunteer base comprised of survivors and health care workers who find healing in giving back and staying in touch with SCF. If you’re looking for community who “gets it,” know we are always right here for you! 🫂

We look forward to supporting Coloradans facing cancer through our first-ever 5K Ribbon Run on Sunday, Nov. 8!

Cancer has touched nearly every family in some way. This run is our chance to support those fighting, celebrate survivors, remember those we’ve lost, and honor the people whose lives have been forever changed by cancer. ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜🩷

This year, one kilometer of the course will be dedicated to the memories of those we’ve lost in our community — this year, that memorial milepost is the Toni Trot, inspired by Toni Baltizar. 🪽
