We are thrilled to reconnect with you after a long break from posting on behalf of End Elder Fraud. A lot has transpired in the past couple of months, and we're excited to share the highlights with you. Firstly, we relocated to a new location in Lone Tree, which has allowed us to better serve the community.

During this time, we organized a highly successful 4-part workshop series in collaboration with the Colorado Credit Union. These workshops were designed to empower seniors with valuable knowledge and strategies to protect themselves against fraud. Additionally, we conducted an extensive session with the Arapahoe County Council on Aging, further spreading awareness and equipping older adults with the tools they need to stay safe.

The impact of our efforts has been significant, as we have been able to reach and positively influence several hundred seniors in the past few months alone. It's immensely rewarding to witness the difference we can make when we come together as a community to combat elder fraud.

Now, we are thrilled to announce the launch of our new YouTube video program. Every week, we will be uploading engaging and informative videos that shed light on common scams. These videos will feature insights and suggestions from our trusted partners in the banking industry, law enforcement agencies, and our valued subscribers. We believe that by increasing awareness and knowledge, we can empower seniors to recognize and protect themselves from scams effectively.

As we step into the new fiscal year, we are faced with the urgent need to secure ongoing support for End Elder Fraud. In order to continue our important work, we rely on the generosity and support of individuals like yourself. We have recently renewed several program support agreements, and your tax-deductible donation will play a crucial role in ensuring the longevity and success of our organization.

We invite you to check out our latest YouTube video, where you'll find valuable insights and practical tips to share with your loved ones. Additionally, we kindly request your support in the form of a tax-deductible donation. By contributing to our cause, you will help us safeguard and protect our seniors, who are vulnerable to financial exploitation.

Thank you for your continued support, and together, let's make a difference in the lives of our elderly community members.

Hello Community,

We've just completed our March Fraud Awareness Bulletin. Our research cell phone received over 200 scams and unwanted calls in February.

The top 3 scam calls were:
- Medicare Benefits Scam (18%)
- Final Expense Insurance Scam (25%)
- Free Medicare COVID Test Kits Scam (17%)

The link to our March Bulletin, with charts and details on each scam can be found here: https://endelderfraud.org/bulletins-and-tips

Also, we've created a new YouTube Playlist containing live recordings of sample scam calls to help inform the community of the scammer's tactics. You can find that playlist here:
https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL8MR1I8uLxbYB5y-wfqbcFY6lMn0F3YsP

As mentioned in my previous post, we are launching our Spring Free Fraud Awareness Presentation sessions at the Littleton Colorado Credit Union starting next week. Our list of upcoming events can be found here: https://endelderfraud.org/upcoming-events

Finally, while we are committed to providing the Scam Awareness Session Free of charge to our seniors, we rely on donations from the community and our sponsors. If you can help with the program, you can donate via our website here: https://endelderfraud.org/about-us

Thank you for your continued support and feedback. We've had the pleasure of meeting many in the community over the last year, and we look forward to sharing some exciting news about a new program in the coming weeks.

An exciting new tool to report scam phone calls.

Hello friends in addition to our partnerships with local and Federal law enforcement, Banks and Senior Support facilities, End Elder Fraud and the FTC have established a dedicated link to report scam calls and/or calls that ignore the National Do Not Call Registry. You can use the url: https://reportfraud.ftc.gov/ #/?orgcode=EEF to report calls to the FTC. This not only supports law enforcement efforts (such as the Car Warranty calls that have been all but eliminated) but also supports the yearly FBI IC3 stats.

We have placed this link on our End Elder Fraud home and Meta/pages.

If you'd like to help us in our efforts to protect seniors from scammers, you can Donate and Volunteer via our site: https://endelderfraud.org/about-us -bd94-47fc-b4c4-348db0cb5ac3

New Lipstick, same pig... COVID Test Scam:

Hello Neighbors, for those who have not seen my posts, I am the Founder/CEO of End Elder Fraud, a nonprofit to end cyber fraud amongst seniors in the community. We put out a monthly bulletin on current frauds, however we have been contacted MULTIPLE times on a new variant to a wide spread fraud. Scammers are calling to offer free COVID Test Kits for seniors on Medicare. This is an absolute fraud. They are trying to secure your address, Medicare ID and other information. We are putting together a recording of the scam for you to hear, but after receiving our 4th contact on this, we decided to put this warning out now.

The best way to confirm if it is a scam is to ask for a number to call them back on.. they usually hang up. Our awareness sessions suggest you not answer unknown calls, if you happen to encounter this, then... "Stay Safe Through Awareness".

Online Support Group for Scam Survivors

It is our pleasure to announce a wonderful opportunity for our readers. As you know, End Elder Fraud is honored to partner with Cathy Wilson LPC, ACS, who is a mental health counselor in Littleton, Colorado.

Cathy has placed tremendous effort into assisting scam survivors, including writing the book "The Emotional Impact of Being Scammed and How to Recover." Her website, listed below in the comments, holds many useful resources for people who have been victimized by scammers, including an extensive library of videos Cathy has personally created on this topic.

Cathy is beginning a new support group for scam survivors the week of January 9. Participation will be through GoogleMeet. If you have been negatively impacted by a scam/scammer, we encourage you to check out Cathy’s group. Scammers are criminals, and the effect they have on people can sometimes be long-lasting and destructive. Don’t let that happen to you! Let Cathy and her team guide you in re-orienting your point-of-view, so you can move forward in trust again. See comments below about where to find more information.

Happy 2023! We wish you a year of peace and security!

We have a special announcement we’d like to share with you today. End Elder Fraud just celebrated its first anniversary! We began this journey on December 21, 2021.

We want to thank everyone we’ve worked with this past year. You have made this an exciting and rewarding experience for the End Elder Fraud team!

We are especially grateful for/to:

• Our Board of Directors
• Elean Gersack, who featured End Elder Fraud in the Castle Rock Connection in August 2022
• Cathy Wilson LPC ACS, whose knowledge about the effects of scamming, along with her compassion for victims, brings even greater depth to the work we do
• Brian Blauser, Supervisory Special Agent (SSA) of the FBI White Collar Crime Squad in Denver; Scott Sickafoose, Deputy Sherrif, Arapahoe County; and Commander David Brown, of the City of Lone Tree Police
• The Rotary Club for giving us an opportunity to tell community leaders about End Elder Fraud’s mission and efforts
• The Lone Tree Mayor and staff
• The Douglas and Arapahoe county libraries who provided free space for our meetings
• All the Senior Living Centers, with a particular shout out to the MorningStar Senior Living communities who have so generously hosted us at their facilities
• Nicholas Mastrocinque, Consumer Sentinel Attorney and Manager at the FTC
• Vectra Bank, for the early help in getting our financial foundation in place
• Colorado Credit Union for their efforts in expanding our reach to many more seniors in 1Q23
• Ent Credit Union for their financial support and future collaboration
• Our website subscribers and NextDoor and Facebook communities
• And finally, our #1 Facebook supporter “Janice”! Thank you Janice for engaging with our posts—it makes a world of difference to us!

Looking ahead, we are excited about more visits with our local senior communities and our new partnerships with financial institutions, which are allowing us to reach and protect even more people proactively. We already have several Fraud Awareness Presentations planned for the first quarter of 2023 and will add more soon. Thank you all for joining us on this journey!

End Elder Fraud wishes you a very Happy New Year!

Do your New Year’s Resolutions include making a difference in your community? If so, and if you are passionate about seniors, please consider joining our efforts in protecting seniors from scammers and cyberfraud.

Even if you have only a few hours per month to contribute, your skills in editing/proofing or nonprofit fundraising can have a profound positive impact on the seniors in our community. Every time we educate a senior, it dramatically lessens the probability they will fall for a gift card scam, an email scam, a romance scam—possibly saving them hundreds if not thousands of dollars.

If one of these opportunities calls to you, please email us at [email protected], so we can talk with you about it and answer any questions you may have. (All volunteer efforts will be completed online—no travel is required.)
