Episode 8: Intention vs. Expertise 💡

Good intentions are a great starting point, but true impact requires the right expertise. This week, we're sitting down with Sarah Holstra, Former Growth Pastor at CrossWinds Church, to discuss a common pitfall in community outreach and why it’s so critical to bridge the gap between willing volunteers and the experts who truly understand the demographic being served.

When people think about Goodness Village, they usually think about what we give to our neighbors. But if you ask our team, they’ll tell you about what our neighbors give back to us.

Reciprocity, connection, and gratitude flow both ways here. We walked around staff offices and asked our team to share a small gift a neighbor has given them over the years that they still treasure. Our neighbors are some of the most gracious, generous people you’ll ever meet. 💚

Speaking of generosity—if you’re inspired to give back to our Village, right now is the best time! All month long, our friends at CHEF are matching $1 for every $2 donated, helping your support go 50% further for our community. 🏠✨

Episode 7: Beyond the Bottom Line 🏢🤝

When a local business decides to look past the spreadsheets and focus on the human being, the entire community wins. This week, we're chatting with Ronnie Espedal, General Manager and COO at Logoboss, about what unfolds when companies open their doors to neighbors ready to re-enter the workforce. Incredible things are possible when we prioritize people over the day-to-day grind.

POV: You just opened your Souper Tuesday lunch from a Goodness Village neighbor. ✨

Good food nourishes the body, but a handwritten note nourishes the heart. For this week’s Souper Tuesday, our community came together for a special multi-partner collaboration:

🛒 CrossWinds Church generously provided all the sandwich ingredients and lunch supplies.

🥪 Goodness Village neighbors & staff assembled 30 Turkey & Swiss lunches—complete with chips, water, and personal, handwritten notes for every bag.

🥣 CityServe of the Tri-Valley hosted the community meal to serve local folks experiencing food insecurity in our area.

🤝 Gateway Church joined on-site to help serve fresh meals with warm smiles!

It is a truly beautiful full-circle moment. Having a safe, stable place to land allows our neighbors to reclaim the capacity to pour back into others. We are so grateful to stand alongside partners who help make moments like this possible. 💚

Behind the scenes with our Village Community Council 🌿

This incredible group of neighbors volunteered for their roles because they care deeply about the future of our community. They pride themselves on being a powerful voice for their fellow community members—advocating for growth, brainstorming ways to make the Village even better, and most importantly, letting our team know exactly what works and what doesn't within our community.

The Council meets monthly to stay connected, and during this month's session, they were hard at work mapping out a SWOT analysis (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats) to help guide our next steps.

💚 True community isn't built for people; it’s built with them.
