Ashtami is considered as one of the most important and powerful days of the festival. On this day, devotees worship Goddess Durga in her fierce form (Mahishasura Mardini) defeated the buffalo demon Mahishasura. This victory symbolizes the triumph of righteousness and the defeat of evil.
