On Friday we hosted families from our community for a summer shopping day. We were able to provide summer clothing for 186 children! I want to thank the Lincoln County School social workers for all their work registering families for the event and being there to welcome the families and signing them in.
We had a wonderful group of volunteer from all over the community. Many of our volunteers return year after year to help at these events. They love helping the children pick out their clothing. A very special thank you to our core group of volunteers who work each week sorting through donations, hanging selected items and keeping things neat and orderly. Of course we could not do any of this with out LCS providing us with a space and our community for providing the gently used and new clothing for the children and youth.
At the end of the families’ shopping experience each child was able to select a new book, provided by Denver Methodist Church, to begin their summer reading. I wish you could have seen their joy as they searched the entire book display to find that special book that spoke to them. It was a very special day.

Last Saturday we hosted the Sunrise community to a shopping event to select summer clothing for the children. Thank you to Shana who contacted families, scheduled their shopping time and greeted them as they arrived. I also have to express my appreciation to all our volunteers who assisted each family in selecting their items, packed the clothing and ensured they had the right size underwear and socks. The kids were also treated to a new book of their choice, to read this summer, thanks to Denver Methodist Church. We were able to serve 161 children!

We have straightened the shelves, and restocked the socks and underwear and are ready for the Lincoln County School shopping day this coming Friday, May 29. If you need assistance in providing clothing for your children and have not already signed up for this event please contact your child’s councilor or social worker to sign up.

We want to thank Tina Robinson and members of the ELHS Student Government Association for assisting us on Tuesday. They arrived at the ARC full of energy, eager to work and brought with them a large donation of clothing they had collected. They spent the morning helping us sort donations, unpack and hang summer clothing in the teen girl’s room, moved boxes and assisted with general house keeping duties. They were a pleasure to work with and eager to assist in any way.
Lincoln County can be proud of their teens. Many are involved in volunteering and assisting others through out our community. Thank you again, it was a pleasure to meet each of you.

We want to send a special thank you to Beverly Deal for her donation of new jeans and tops for our teens.

We also send special thanks to Dr.Beam and the school office for their generous gift of much needed hygiene items for our youth and teens. The kids frequently ask for soap, shampoo and deodorant and these are products we don’t often have. Thanks again it will be so nice to have these items available for the students.

I want to thank Laura Burch and the other clinical instructors from the Gaston College Nursing Department for all their help. These lovely ladies volunteered their time to help us at the ARC. They assisted with sorting donations, straightening shelves and restocking socks and underwear. They were so much fun.
I can’t thank you enough for helping us catch up on such much needed work.

Tuesday we had a great time assisting these wonderful ladies, from Lincolnton Head Start, who pick out clothing for 24 of their precious students. They were so excited for the children to receive their new outfits.
Thank you to our community members who donate clothing to meet the needs of children and youth in our community.

Thursday was our Winter Shopping event for the Lincoln County School students and their siblings. It was a wonderful day, we served 64 families with a total of 195 children and youth. I can’t thank the school social workers enough for getting these families signed up and being present to welcome them to the ARC and sign them in. Thank you to the volunteers who assisted the families in picking our their winter clothing items and coats, packing the selected items in bags labeled for each child , and making sure they received the correct size socks and underwear.

Of course we could not do this with our your help. Thank you for your donations of new and gently used clothing and shoes. This makes such a difference to these families who are struggling to cover the cost of housing, food, and utilities. You are a blessing.

Now it is time to straighten the shelves and restock for more children in need.

Current needs:

Teen boys athletic or sweat pants sizes Small, Medium, Large, X Large and 2X. We have none!

Teen boys long sleeve shirts size Small and Medium

Young boys long sleeve shirts size 10/12 and 14/16
Young boys pants size 4, 5, 6, and 14

Childrens coats boys and girls sizes 5-18

We had a family shopping today and their son needs a size 38X40 jeans, and a 14 shoe. We unfortunately did not have his size. I am reaching out to see if anyone have this size jeans or shoes they would like to donate. If so you can place the donation in our donation bin just outside our door.

We got a little taste of winter wheather this morning and it was a reminder of how important it is to be able to share warm winter clothing to children in need in our community. We provided winter clothing and coats to 179 children last week. It was a wonderful event but did leave our inventory a little low on certain items. We are asking for your help to replenish our shelves. Our next shopping event is scheduled for November 20 for the Lincoln County School students and their siblings. We usually serve around 200 children and youth at this event.

As you go through your children’s winter items and find shirts, pants, coats, pajamas and hoodies they can no longer wear please consider donating them to the Asbury Resource Center. We are located in the older building on the Asbury Academy Campus at 221 Salem Church Road, Lincolnton. We have a metal donation bin located just outside our doors and items can be dropped off at anytime. The students and the Asbury Academy check the bin and bring the donations in each morning.

Our most urgent needs are:

Young Boys jeans and athletic pants in sizes 5, 6, 10, 14, 16, 18

Young Boys long sleeve shirts sizes 10/12, and 14/16

Young Boys pajamas sizes 5, 6, 7/8, 10/12, 14/16

Winter coats for boys and girls sizes 5, 6, 7/8, 10/12, 14/16

Teen Boy atheltic pants and sweat pants sizes Small, Medium, Large, and X Large
