It is a new school year and that brings a lot of excitement. Shopping for new clothes and school supplies, returning to the classroom, meeting new teachers, and reuniting with friends. At the Asbury Resource Center we are just as excited. During the summer the building’s exterior was pressured washed, and the doors, windows, and all the trim were painted. We have a fresh new look!

We want to send a special Thank You to Alan, Sophia, Heaven and Mia, our summer volunteers. They have been so much fun to work with and we will miss their energy and smiles. They worked hard sorting, putting clothing away, cleaning, and carrying all those heavy bags of poundage to the trailer for us.
We “Golden Girls” will miss you. Best wishes for a wonderful and fulfilling school year.

The past few days have been very busy. On Saturday morning we hosted a Back to School shopping event at our West Lincoln ARC during their Back to School Blast. We were able to serve 148 children and youth that morning. Thank you to the families who waited so patiently to shop.

On Tuesday we held another Back to School event at our Lincolnton ARC. We were delighted to serve 181 children and youth. We were also blessed to be able to provide school supplies and hygiene items to all the shoppers on Tuesday. We want to send a big, “Thank You”, to Stuff the Bus for the school supplies and “Thank You” to Bosch Industries, East Lincoln Rotary, North Lincoln Dance Team and Leadership Lincoln for all the hygiene items. The families were so appreciative to receive these items.

Our three Back to School Shopping events served a total of 477 children. Without our community and the many volunteers we could not have accomplished this.

We wish all the students a rewarding and fun year at school. We are sending our love and support to the teachers, social workers, councilors, teacher’s aids, Administrative personnel , office staff, custodial staff and bus drivers who work with our children each day. Thank you!

We want to thank Shannon Rinkus, Beckett, Zach, Greyson and Nick for helping today. They straightened up the clothing racks in the rooms, filled the underwear and sock containers, sorted books, and carried out the poundage for us. These young men were willing to do anything I asked and followed through completing the tasks with precision. Thank you so much for all your help. You are welcome to come back anytime.

What an awesome day! On Saturday we held a Back to School shopping event. We were privileged to serve 148 children and youth. So many of our volunteers approached me to tell me how much they enjoyed the event and commented on how sweet the families were. They loved meeting the children and helping them pick out their clothing. Some of the children told the personal shoppers they could not wait to wear their new outfits to school.
Thank you volunteers and thank you community, we could not do this with out you.

We want to thank the Denver/Lake Norman Rotary Club and the NLHS Dance Team for their joint effort to provide much needed hygiene items for the Asbury Resource Center and school supplies for Stuff the Bus. Hailey Cornwell, her two daughters and Debbie Perry arrived Thursday afternoon with two cars full of supplies.
The hygiene items, soap, body wash, shampoo, deodorant, and tooth brushes arrived in time for our two Back to School shopping events.
The families will be so pleased to receive these basic hygiene items, that we offen take for granted. For families who are struggling in these days of higher and higher prices they are forced to make choices between paying rent or utility bills, buying gas for their cars, food, clothing, shoes, and school supplies. Thanks to your generosity this is one item they can check off their list.

We are busy getting ready for our Back to School Shopping events. We processed recent donations, and displayed them in the appropriate rooms. We had three extra volunteers who joined in the fun this week. BJ came to put labels on the shopping bags and Amanda and her sweet daughter Addie put together supplies in bags for a special event. Our secret Santa came by this week and dropped off all these new winter coats, shirts, and sweat suits for our kids. There were 3 more bags full that we could not get on the table. Thank you Santa! The children and youth who receive these items will be so happy.

We all want to feel good about ourselves and having clean appropriate clothing is a big part of that. With the cost of living going up we see families who for the first time are having to ask for help. Thank you to our community for your continued generous support of our mission. With your help we have been able to serve these families.

Thank you to the Business and Professional Women of Lincolnton for their generous donation of shopping bags. The bags will be used to pack the children’s clothing in after they finish shopping.

Our school social workers will also enjoy using them to send items home with the students on the bus. The bag provides some dignity by not making it apparent to everyone that they are taking clothes home with them. We are always in need of large heavy duty shopping bags.

School will soon be starting and we are preparing for our Back to School shopping events that are scheduled August 1st and the 12th. We want each child to have access to clean and appropriate clothing to wear to class. We need your help to make this happen. We are in need of the following items

Toddler boys shirts size 2
Young girls shorts sizes 14, 16, and 18
Young boys shorts sizes 7 and 18
Young boys shirts sizes 7 and 8
Young boys shoes size 5 and 6
Teen boys shirts size small and medium
Teen boys jeans size 28, 29, 30 and 31 waist
Teen boys shoes size 15

We also need hygien items, soap, deodorant, and shampoo. You may leave your donations in the metal donation bin located just outside our door. Our address is 221 Salem Church Road. We are the older building located on the Asbury Academy Campus.
