Honoring Indigenous Peoples’ Day

Today, The 1895 Project honors Indigenous Peoples’ Day. We recognize the Native nations who have stewarded this land since time immemorial, including the Omaha, Ponca, Otoe-Missouria, Pawnee, and Ho-Chunk peoples here in Nebraska, and we celebrate their resilience, culture, and ongoing contributions.

At The 1895 Project, we believe in lifting up the stories that deserve to be told. Our work is rooted in tradition, education, and access for young people, and we know that honoring history means honoring all of it. Today we invite our families, partners, and community to learn about the Indigenous communities around us and to support Native-led organizations, businesses, and educators.

Let’s keep learning, keep listening, and keep building a community where every young person sees their story valued.
