Aloha! Meet Lono!🩵🐶

Just like the Hawaiian God Lono- rooted in agriculture, rainfall, and fertility (I am father of Koa!)- all which makes the earth: earth is the heart. Lono is so full of heart, love, loyalty, and strength. Lono has not had an easy life, but he thrived because of his love and the love that was given to him. Lono is also the God of peace. Lono deserves just that- peace. As a kupuna dog, a soft life is well-deserved.

Lono loves to play ball (yes, will return it too!) loves truck/car rides, loves meeting new people, loves playing with his ball/toys and is food/treat motivated. Lono knows sit, stay, lay down, shake as requested by you when offered a yummy ONO treat! Lono does enjoy the company of
calm sweet energy of other dogs. Lono doesn’t like feline friends-no cats in the hale please.

Lono would be a wonderful addition to a person or ‘Ohana whom can give him the love,
adoration, responsibility, respect as an equal who understands his breed fully. In
return, Lono will give you his whole heart fully with unconditional love and loyalty
forever.🩵

MAHALO to everyone for stepping up for this pup. We are so grateful to our community and to Saturn’s forever home for the love and compassion that ultimately gave a him a second chance at life 💕

🥳It's our birthday party week and we've already got something to celebrate: new beginnings for our shelter pets!

We had 24 adoptions, 10 cat transfers to rescue partners, and 13 pets reunited with their families. We're doing a happy dance for long-stay pets Ladybug and Kitty Girl who waited over 100 days for their forever ʻohana!

Every adoption makes a difference! Adopting any animal helps all of the animals in our care by giving our staff more time to focus on pets with more complex needs and make space for another cat or dog looking for a second chance. Mahalo for your support!

🚨 AT-RISK: Saturn Needs a Home 🚨

Shelter life has become increasingly difficult for Saturn and without an adopter who can meet his needs, his mental health will continue to decline and humane euthanasia will be the outcome.

He is great around people, but he needs to be the only dog in a home.

"Overall, Saturn was a gentle, affectionate companion who was easy to spend time with. He enjoys being near his people, exploring new environments, and taking in the world around him. " - Saturn's Recent Field Trippers

While Saturn has been amazing on his field trip outings, at the end of the day he returns to the shelter. The constant noise, activity, and stress are taking a toll on his mental well-being, and he is struggling more each day. We have been unable to pair him with other dogs which makes our capacity crisis even greater as more dogs arrive through our doors.

Saturn needs a calm, patient home where he can decompress and build confidence. He’s looking for a home as the only pet, where he can thrive without the stress of sharing his space.

With time and positive training, Saturn may become more comfortable around other dogs, but he may always do best as your one and only. His behavior is based on what we've seen in the shelter and may not fully reflect how he adjusts in a home.

Without a placement soon, Saturn's declining quality of life may leave us facing heartbreaking decisions no shelter ever wants to make.

This striking 4-year-old tabby is impossible to miss. With his long, tall frame and movie-star good looks, Swiss Chard turns heads wherever he goes. But his personality is what truly steals the show.

Swiss Chard is a busy boy who believes life is meant to be lived to the fullest. Whether he’s scaling cat trees, exploring every nook and cranny, or turning his favorite humans into jungle gyms, he’s always ready for his next adventure. In fact, after spending time with him, we’re pretty sure he was secretly meant to be named Jungle Jim!

This handsome guy is also wonderfully affectionate. He loves weaving between your legs, soaking up attention, and sharing plenty of love right back. Swiss Chard is incredibly social and vocal, often “singing” little songs to let you know exactly what’s on his mind. He’s also remarkably easygoing when it comes to handling—he happily tolerated being picked up, carried around, and even showed off his best Lion King pose without complaint.

While Swiss Chard adores people, he prefers not to share the spotlight with other cats. He would do best as the only feline in his new home, where he can be the king of his castle and enjoy all the attention for himself. He’s also very food-motivated and can be protective of his meals, so his future family should be mindful of his resource-guarding tendencies.

Swiss Chard is the total package: soulful, lively, affectionate, entertaining, and full of personality. If you’re looking for a best friend who will keep you laughing, talking, and feeling loved every single day, Swiss Chard is ready to steal your heart. 🩵

Our 25th Birthday Party is happening Saturday, June 27 from 11 AM–3 PM at the shelter, plus with extended adoption hours until 6 PM.

This free community event has all kinds of fun activities for everyone including your pets and keiki. We can’t wait to celebrate with you!

Yeah… we lost count! We’ve taken in 322 kittens since March 1 of this year and more keep coming through our doors.

The Kauai Humane Society is often the last place vulnerable kittens can go to find care, recovery, and a second chance.

Please help us find Richter! 🐶 🚨

Search efforts are ongoing for Richter, who escaped from his foster home near Sleeping Giant on Friday, June 12th, at 3:45 pm.

While Richter is still missing, his foster mom has reported several sightings of him on the Sleeping Giant trail, specifically near the picnic table lookout and the bridge that is currently out. He is a friendly but nervous boy who has appeared terrified and bolts when approached by humans since his escape. He was last seen wearing a red Kauaʻi Humane Society collar.

His foster mom has been hiking the trail daily to set out food and water, and he has even been spotted visiting her yard at night.

How you can help:

- Sightings: If you see Richter, please do not approach or chase him, as he is very skittish and will run.

We are always so thrilled when we can help match a pet to their perfect pair, and also so thrilled when we can reunite lost pets with their owners 🐾 This past week we brought 7 animals back together with their families!
