The next Public Hearing for Kaua’i ‘Āina Kūpuna bill is coming up next week! There’s still time to submit your testimony, either in writing or in person at the hearing next Wednesday, 10/28 at 8:30am. In person testimony is encouraged!

Now is the time to speak up and show leaders that we care deeply for our ‘āina and the long time families who make our community so special 💚

We’re stoked to be back in the moku of Kona this weekend for Coffee and Talk Story! ☕️

In light of the recent hurricane, we’ve decided to shift from our originally planned Estate Planning workshop to a more casual Coffee & Talk Story gathering. We recognize that it may feel too soon to dive into a big workshop, and right now we want to make space for the community’s current needs.

On Kaua’i we have all felt the impact of Hurricane Lowell. In the last few weeks we’ve experienced the amazing strength and resilience of our community as we’ve shown up for each other through the difficult times. And although we are moving forward together, some have a longer road to recovery after the storm.

We want to take a moment to share and uplift the recovery efforts of 2 of our very special Kūpuna couples who could use some extra kōkua.

Please consider supporting the Pacheco and Chandler ‘ohanas as they work to recover after hurricane Lowell. Whether it’s a donation or just sharing with your networks, everything helps! 💚

ʻĀina Kūpuna Bill No. 3008 — An Important Step Forward! 🤎

Mahalo nui to everyone who submitted testimony, showed up in person, and shared their manaʻo in support of the Kauaʻi ʻĀina Kūpuna bill!

We’re excited to share that Bill No. 3008 passed its first reading unanimously!

This is an important milestone, but the work continues. The next public hearing is scheduled for October 28, and we’ll continue sharing updates and opportunities for community participation as the bill moves through the legislative process.

Mahalo for standing with us and for your continued commitment to keeping ʻohana connected to ancestral ʻāina for generations to come. 🌱

Kāhea for testimony: Support ʻĀina Kūpuna — Bill No. 3008

Kīpuka Kuleana is calling on our community to submit testimony in support of proposed Bill No. 3008, which would establish an ʻĀina Kūpuna property tax dedication for qualifying long-time Kauaʻi ʻohana.

As described in the proposal, the program would provide a minimal, fixed property tax for 10 years for qualifying families who can trace their land back to before statehood, while addressing penalties and interest owed on unpaid property taxes before entering the program.

For generations, ʻohana have cared for lands that hold family histories, cultural practices, ʻike, and connections to place. Kīpuka supports this proposal as one step toward helping qualifying ʻohana remain connected to ancestral lands.

We are a Kauaʻi-based nonprofit working to protect ancestral lands and strengthen the connections between ʻohana and the places they come from.

Our work is rooted in a simple belief: ʻāina is more than land. It holds generations of history, ʻike, cultural practice, relationship, and kuleana.

Across our programs, we mālama ʻāina, support ʻohana in caring for their lands, and advocate for the protection and return of ancestral lands — work grounded in the relationships between people and place.

Mahalo nui to the Hosea Lovell Foundation for welcoming us to be a part of the 3rd Annual Koʻolau Limu Festival! 🌿💚

We had such a wonderful time meeting new faces, reconnecting with familiar ones, and enjoying a beautiful day together in the moku o Koʻolau. Grateful for the opportunity to gather, connect, and celebrate limu and our community. 🌊🌺

Mahalo nui to the amazing volunteers who came out for our workday last Saturday! 💪🏽

Together we planted lā’ī and cleaned up the ‘āina to prepare for future planting. We also had the pleasure of learning from Aunty Nalani about limu along the shoreline of Mamalu bay 🌊💙

Looking forward to more workdays and opportunities at Wanini ahead ✨
