Yesterday I officiated a wedding for my niece. As I walked up to the mike, I had 150 eyes on me, close family, friends and complete strangers, and most importantly my niece who put a lot of time and energy into planning a beautiful wedding.

I felt immense pressure to honor them by doing a great job. After the wedding dozens of strangers approached me and complimented me on how personal the ceremony was and how I had done a great job speaking without notes. This included family, the parents of the bride and groom, but most of all, my niece, who said, "That was so perfect Uncle. Thank you."

I am grateful for my time in Agora for giving me a platform to practice speaking, faking confidence, and controlling my nerves. I grateful to my fellow Agorians that gave me feedback during my dry run of the ceremony during our last Agora meeting.

I hope our community takes advantage of this amazing opportunity to practice speaking, leading, and communication. You never know when someone will ask you to speak. Especially if they find out you are an Agorian 🙂 It is a great opportunity if you are prepared.

Go ahead and do something that scares you!

Our latest Agora meeting was filled with heartfelt moments and deep reflections as we explored the theme of "Love" for Mother's Day. Mark delivered an inspiring speech titled "Finding My North," sharing how writing down his values helped him navigate tough times and stay grounded. Allison also led a thought-provoking discussion that challenged our members with deep, meaningful questions on love and purpose—no easy task, especially on a Monday! It was a powerful session that reminded us all why we value our Agora community and the important of involvement and practice. Thank you to everyone who joined and contributed!

Kauai Agora had a fantastic meeting today at our new location, Hale Lihue. After President John kicked things off, Kahea, the manager of Hale Lihue, gave us a warm welcome and shared an inspiring overview of their mission. The agenda was packed with two engaging speeches, two formal evaluations, and still enough time for Hot Questions. Members were especially glad to see the return of formal evaluations.

Remember we moved. See full details on our About page or at our website kauaiagora.org. Hope to see you at a future meeting.

Come check us out on April 14th!

80% of the membership and some guests were in attendance and ready to be entertained by our two speakers last meeting. Jim used slight of tongue to astonish us with the story of Herman Klinck which was magically delivered.

We had a "quintessential" Agora meeting today.
All members stepped up to collaborate to make this impromptu meeting a success!

Jim explained how his life was not unlike Demetrene's in many ways. Jim demonstrated the many elements of an excellent speech. We returned a bit to tradition when Mark W gave Jim a formal evaluation for his speech.

Jan and others with the "Red" communication style are enthusiastic and creative! And that is just one of their many strengths. We had a good mix of all four color communication styles at the meeting. Once we all discovered our primary preferred communication styles, we learned how to communicate more effectively with others with different communication styles.

Did you miss our awesome workshop? Don't worry. Every 1st and 3rd Monday of the month we gather to strengthen our communication skills. Come join us at Saint Michael and All Angels Church in Lihue from 12:00 pm until 1 pm in the conference room located at the rear building.
