Yesterday I officiated a wedding for my niece. As I walked up to the mike, I had 150 eyes on me, close family, friends and complete strangers, and most importantly my niece who put a lot of time and energy into planning a beautiful wedding.
I felt immense pressure to honor them by doing a great job. After the wedding dozens of strangers approached me and complimented me on how personal the ceremony was and how I had done a great job speaking without notes. This included family, the parents of the bride and groom, but most of all, my niece, who said, "That was so perfect Uncle. Thank you."
I am grateful for my time in Agora for giving me a platform to practice speaking, faking confidence, and controlling my nerves. I grateful to my fellow Agorians that gave me feedback during my dry run of the ceremony during our last Agora meeting.
I hope our community takes advantage of this amazing opportunity to practice speaking, leading, and communication. You never know when someone will ask you to speak. Especially if they find out you are an Agorian 🙂 It is a great opportunity if you are prepared.
Go ahead and do something that scares you!
