Tips for attracting fireflies.

The conditions they require aren’t complicated or expensive to create, and many of them overlap with garden habits that are simply good practice for overall yard health. A few intentional changes to how you manage your Texas backyard can bring fireflies back in a way that makes those warm summer nights feel completely different.

Liberty Hill Garden Club’s April outing was worth the drive to Navasota to visit Martha’s Bloomers! We shopped their retail store, perused and shopped their plant nursery, had lunch in their “oh so cute” on premisis cafe and shopped their plant nursery some more! No one left empty handed! And thank goodness we had SUVs to carry our purchases home. Great day of shopping, bonding and enjoying good conversation on the 2+ hour drive each way. Amazing the things you can learn about garden club members ! Mums the word!!

The Liberty Hill Garden Club had their April meeting last week. The Club provided an update on the success of their Annual Plant Sale, March 28th at The Market LHTX. It was quite a success and will provide monetary funds for many of the clubs philanthropies!

Gaye Kriegel, Georgetown Garden Club -Texas, provided an entertaining presentation on "Plant Propagation". The Club learned a great deal on the types of Plant Propagation; Cutting, Division, Layering. Gaye started propagating in 1984 with a Widow’s Tear's Plant. She says her garden is a "garden of second chances" due to her propagation. Why propagate... it's kind of FREE plants and some are generational or handed down from generation to generation. See the pics attached below of a few summary slides; benefits of plant propagation, importance of pruning, propagation by cuttings, propagation by division and layering. Enjoy!

The April outing logistics to Martha's Bloomers in Navasota was discussed with great enthusiasm and participation.

Also the 2026-2028 Official Officer Slate has been formalized . Next month the officers will be installed and publicly announced.

The Liberty Hill Garden Club participated at The Market LHTX today with an extremely successful plant sale. The vast majority of plants were grown and donated by garden club members or friends of the members; garden flowers, vegetables, herbs, succulents, native plants and trees, house plants, hanging baskets, and more! Something for everyone! A great day with great success.

For detail on the use of funds raised, see the attached flier!
