In April the troop went to Pedernales Falls State Park for their annual Tenderfoot campout. Every year the troop puts on a Tenderfoot campout to help new Scouts earn advancements towards their Tenderfoot rank. In the morning the troop hiked Wolf Mountain Trail working on their hiking merit badge. After lunch they sat around the campsite and went over advancement for Scout, Tenderfoot, and First Class. Afterwards they headed to the river and spent the rest of the day swimming before heading back to their campsite to warm up hotdogs and s’mores over a campfire.

Troop 196 will have a booth at The Market LHTX this season! We will be selling survival bracelets and belt buckles that we have made ourselves. All funds raised go back to the troop and help support campouts, summer camp, and our annual veteran flag replacement ceremonies.

Thank you to everyone that supported us at our first market on 5/3! We greatly appreciate our community.

Check us out at the next market!

It’s election night for the troop. Tonight the scouts will vote on leadership rolls they will hold for the next 6 months.
If a Scout wants to run for a position they must give a short speech introducing themselves, why they want the position and how they are qualified.
The scouts will then anonymously vote.
We encourage the scouts to take on any leadership role they can handle and let them know they are fully supported in their role.

Troop 196 spent the weekend at Enchanted Rock camping, hiking, and geocaching.

The boys learn many life long lessons on weekend camping trips. They have to prepare and cook their own meals. They learn how to lead and how to follow direction. Without WiFi they learn how to communicate with each other and how to entertain themselves without electronic distractions.

Not only are the boys learning but they are also having fun. This weekend they climbed boulders, crawled through caves, and were pushing their limits on how steep of a slope they can climb.

If you know someone interested in joining Boy Scouts we meet on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month at 7:30pm at Cross Tracks Church. For our camping trip in March we will be fishing.

To end summer break our troop floated down the San Marcos River. Our shuttle service/tube rental allowed us early entry and we had the entire river to ourselves. If you ever floated the San Marcos you know how crowded it is so having an empty river was an amazing experience. We took our time enjoying the float and stopping a few times to enjoy the cool water. Afterwards we headed back to our campsite to have lunch and hang out in the river as everyone floated by.

Our troop is always accepting new Scouts. We meet on Tuesday nights in Liberty Hill. If you’re interested in joining you are welcome to drop in on a meeting.

At the beginning of 2025 the troop votes on where they want to go for summer camp. This year the winner was Camp Constantin! Camp Constantin has many activities and merit badges they offered during the summer. And being located on Possum Kindgom Lake they had a lot of water activities to keep everyone cool.

Last week our small town was devastated by the flooding in central Texas. As the cleaning and recovery efforts continue our community has showed up for each other as we help our neighbors in every need necessary. Roads and bridges were cleared, food and clothes were donated, shelter provided, and clean up crews were organized all by our community.
As a Boy Scout we are called to help others at all times. During this difficult time our troop was honored to be able to help and put hygiene kits together that would later be given out at our local supply distribution center.
As we continue to mourn the loss in our community and those all across Central Texas please keep all those affected by this tragedy in your prayers and if possible serve in any way that you are called to do.

This Memorial Day weekend Troop 196 placed flags on the graves of veterans to remember their service.
This Memorial Day we say thank you. Thank you to the brave men and women that never came home. Thank you for their ultimate sacrifice so that we may live in the freedom they died to protect. Thank you to the parents, children, and spouses who carry their sacrifice with them every day. We owe our fallen heroes a debt that we can never fully repay.
