Something 𝗻𝗲𝘄 is coming.

Author John Mark Comer (𝘙𝘶𝘵𝘩𝘭𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘌𝘭𝘪𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘰𝘧 𝘏𝘶𝘳𝘳𝘺, 𝘗𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘞𝘢𝘺) writes: "Transformation is possible if we are willing to arrange our lives around the practices, rhythms, and truths that Jesus himself did, which will open our lives to God's power to change."

Starting August 9, we're beginning a new sermon series based on just that premise: 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝘆 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗲: 𝗖𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝗖𝗵𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁-𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗟𝗶𝗳𝗲. Over five weeks, we'll explore what it looks like to live the way Jesus called us to live: graciously, lovingly, humbly, generously, and encouragingly.

Clue: On August 1, 2026, he was elected the IX Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Lexington.

Answer: Who is the Rev. David Sibley?

Walnut Hill Church extends our warmest congratulations to the Diocese of Lexington on the election of the Rev. David Sibley as its next bishop!

Currently serving as Rector of Saint Paul’s Church in Walla Walla, Washington, Bishop-elect Sibley has led remarkable parish growth, championed spiritual formation and spearheaded a medical-debt forgiveness campaign that eliminated $2.6 million in debt for 1,288 people.

He holds a Master of Divinity from General Theological Seminary and bachelor’s and master’s degrees in chemistry from Furman University. Before answering the call to the Pacific Northwest, he served congregations in Brooklyn and Long Island. He is currently pursuing a Doctor of Ministry at the University of the South’s School of Theology in Sewanee, Tennessee.

And we MUST mention that he is also a four-day Jeopardy! champion and Tournament of Champions semifinalist who once dropped an exceedingly appropriate Salt-N-Pepa “Push It” reference on national television, which honestly just makes us love him more. Search for the video. It’s amazing.

In Luke 5, a paralyzed man couldn't get to Jesus on his own, so his friends carried him there. That's the power of a Christ-centered life: we see the need in others, we don't look away, and we carry them when they can't carry themselves. Because when Christ is present, no outcome is written in stone.

Pastor Shawn knows this firsthand, not just from Scripture, but from a moment in his own life when he had nothing left to offer and the people around him refused to let him stay on the mat.
