They say, "Don't meet your heroes—you'll only be disappointed." This time, they were wrong.

Kentucky racing legend Steve Cauthen, who won the Triple Crown aboard Affirmed at just 18 years old, joined our residents for Monday Motivation and shared a story that went far beyond horse racing.

After reaching the pinnacle of his sport, Steve found himself struggling with alcohol and searching for purpose. Just days before winning the 1985 British Fillies' Triple Crown aboard Oh So Sharp, he made the decision to stop drinking—despite fearing sobriety might cost him his career. Instead, it became the beginning of a new life.

Now 41 years sober, Steve spoke openly about recovery, faith, family, and the importance of working the 12 Steps. His honesty, humility, and hope inspired our residents and staff alike.

We're grateful to call Steve a friend and thankful he shared his story with us.

If you'd like to share your own story of hope with our residents, please reach out to [email protected].

What a wonderful weekend at Stable Recovery! Our residents enjoyed canoeing, spending quality time together, and celebrating with fireworks. Moments like these remind us that recovery is about more than sobriety; it's about building meaningful connections, creating lasting memories, and finding joy in life again.

We are proud of the supportive community we have built and the opportunity to walk alongside each resident on their recovery journey. Here's to many more moments of growth, laughter, and hope together!

Last evening, Stable Recovery had the privilege of welcoming Dr. Simon Olstein, a vascular surgeon with more than 25 years of medical experience who now dedicates his work to the treatment of addiction. He delivered an engaging and informative presentation on the brain and the science of recovery, providing valuable insights and education for our community.

Dr. Olstein is deeply committed to advancing understanding and reducing the stigma surrounding addiction. He emphasizes that addiction is a chronic medical condition—similar to diabetes or hypertension—and advocates for evidence-based treatment, compassionate care, and increased public awareness. His dedication to helping individuals build healthier, more fulfilling lives closely aligns with Stable Recovery's mission.

We are grateful to Dr. Olstein for sharing his expertise, knowledge, and passion with our community. His presentation reinforced the importance of viewing addiction through both a scientific and compassionate lens, and it inspired meaningful conversations about recovery, healing, and hope.

Residents welcomed Stable Recovery friend Jennifer Lear, who led a two-part career workshop focused on preparing to return to the workforce.

Stable residents at all phases of the program submitted their resumes or work history, gained feedback on how to highlight their strengths and existing skill sets, participated in question-and-answer sessions, and mock interviews. Part of what sets Stable Recovery apart from other recovery & treatment programs is our dual focus on addiction recovery and on providing our residents with job training in the equine field.

Lack of job security and financial concerns upon completing treatment can often contribute to relapse, and a goal of our program is to eliminate that uncertainty and provide training that leads to opportunities for meaningful and purposeful work.

We cannot effectively attack the many challenges that come with drug and alcohol abuse disorders without the help of a very wide network of experienced volunteers, our strategic partners, and donors.

We are so grateful to Jennifer for her time, incredible insight, and willingness to guide residents as they navigate employment challenges on their road to recovery.

If you or your organization is interested in how you can help our residents achieve and maintain success, please email [email protected].

Sobriety takes a village, and we'd love to welcome you into ours.

This week, two more residents graduated from the Taylor Made School of Horsemanship.

Joseph D. and Jonah L. have successfully completed the program, marking another milestone in their hard work and dedication. Joseph has secured a full-time position in the broodmare division at WinStar Farm, while Jonah is pursuing several promising opportunities as he begins the next chapter of his career.

Congratulations to both of these men, who put in the hard work, long hours, and time necessary to achieve this accomplishment. Their perseverance, commitment, and passion have paid off, and we are excited to see all they will accomplish in the future.
