✨New Inside Theater Projects Begin in August✨
As Maine Inside Out prepares to launch 12-week theater projects later this year inside Bolduc Correctional Facility and the Southern Maine Women’s Reentry Center, the MIO Creative Ensemble will go inside in August to perform new original work for audiences of incarcerated community members and prison staff.

These two performances in August will be designed to invite dialogue and will give incarcerated audience members an opportunity to talk with MIO artists and leaders about the opportunity to participate in a theater project this fall.

Stay tuned for invitations to culminating performances and dialogues inside in November and December!

From Within is a powerful pop-up art show and fundraiser celebrating creativity, resilience, and self-expression through the work of five men currently incarcerated at Lawrenceville Correctional Center.
Hosted by ReVision Energy, the event invites community members to experience original paintings that offer a deeply personal glimpse into the artists’ inner worlds.
Guests will have the opportunity to connect through art, support access to creative expression, and help expand programs that bring healing and opportunity through the arts.
The event will take place TONIGHT, Thursday, May 21, 2026, from 4:00–7:00 PM at ReVision Energy in South Portland.

Maine Inside Out will be there tabling. We hope to see you!

🎉🎉Celebrating our Collaboration: Maine Inside Out + Maine Prisoner Advocacy Coalition - MPAC 🎉🎉

MIO and MPAC came together this month to break bread and celebrate our new pilot collaboration: the MIO-MPAC Adult Re-entry Community Group. Building on the robust peer support networks that each organization has built over many years, the group welcomes adults ages 18+ who are in re-entry after incarceration to come together weekly at MIO’s site in Lewiston for peer support, artistic expression, and civic engagement.

During our time together we shared lunch, played theater games, and created a “collaboration tree,” writing notes on its leaves about our hopes for what this collaboration will bring forth into our communities.

Highlights:
“Collaborative projects, coming together, breaking bread”
“Inspiration and action”
“Create more plays together”
“Belonging, overcoming isolation”
“Strengthen and sustain this work until it is no longer needed”
“Trust”

🎭Juneteenth Performances + Community Dialogue🎭

✨Your voice matters. Come to reckon, reflect, and act together.✨

Join Maine Inside Out for our Juneteenth community gatherings in Lewiston and Portland. Each event will be an open dialogue about mass incarceration in the US, anchored by original theater, film, and lived experience. Come to think, feel, and reckon together about what liberation looks like in our communities. At a moment when civic engagement is vital, this is an opportunity for active participation.
