A year and a half ago, one of our Behavioral Health Home clients was experiencing homelessness and struggling with substance use.

Today, he has a home of his own. He is sober. He has reconnected with his children and grandchildren. And when asked how life feels today, he told us:

“Life feels different. My life feels different. Life feels great now.”

When asked what he is most proud of, he shared:

“I am very proud of being sober, getting away from all of that, and making better decisions.”

His CCS case manager, Meghan, has walked alongside him throughout this journey - helping him navigate housing, medical appointments, basic needs and the many steps involved in building stability.

He described what that support has meant to him:

“Your voice. Your wisdom and kindness. Most importantly, you helped me make good decisions. You made sure that I took care of myself.”

But perhaps one of the most meaningful changes has been reconnecting with his children and grandchildren.

“It has meant everything to me. It has meant the whole world. I feel excited now. I feel happiness. I can look them in the eye now.”

And when we asked what he would want the people who make programs like case management possible to know, his answer was simple:

“You make a difference for people.”

He has done the hard work to change his life. Case management helped make sure he didn’t have to do it alone.

This is why case management matters. This is why community health centers matter. And this is why our mission matters.

Important MaineCare/Medicaid Coverage Changes Are Coming

Changes to Medicaid (MaineCare) eligibility will begin taking effect October 1, 2026, with additional changes beginning January 1, 2027. These changes may affect whether some patients qualify for MaineCare coverage.

We know changes to health coverage can be confusing and stressful. Please remember: a loss of coverage does not mean a loss of care at Community Clinical Services (CCS).

If your MaineCare coverage changes or ends, please do not cancel or delay needed healthcare because you are worried about how you will pay. CCS offers a Sliding Fee Discount Program based on household size and income, and our team can help you understand the options that may be available to you.

We also encourage patients to read and respond promptly to any notices from MaineCare and complete any requested eligibility or renewal information by the deadline provided.

CCS has information about the upcoming changes available on our website in multiple languages to help patients and families understand what may be changing and when.

Important Medicaid (MaineCare) Update - CCS Is Here for You

We are sharing this important update from Maine DHHS about upcoming changes to MaineCare eligibility. If you receive a letter from MaineCare, please be sure to read it carefully and keep it for your records.

We also want our patients to know something very important:

If your MaineCare coverage changes or ends, you can still receive care at Community Clinical Services.

Please do not stop coming to your appointments or avoid seeking care because you are worried about losing insurance coverage or being unable to pay.

We are here for you.

CCS offers a Sliding Fee Discount Program based on household size and income. Our team can help you complete an application and determine what discount you may qualify for.

We do not deny care because of an inability to pay.

If you receive a notice about a change to your MaineCare coverage, contact us. We will help you understand your options and work with you so you can continue receiving care from your CCS care team.

Your insurance coverage may change. Our commitment to caring for you does not.

Our partners at the Office for Family Independence () are sending MaineCare Expansion members—adults who are between 19 and 64 years old and don't meet Social Security disability guidelines or have Medicare—an outreach letter this week about the upcoming changes to MaineCare eligibility happening in 2027.

Members who have opted in to e-noticing should receive the letter in their My Maine Connection accounts this week. Paper letters are also being mailed this week to members not opted into e-noticing.

⚠️ HEALTH ALERT: Cyclospora Outbreak Now Includes Maine.

Maine health officials have confirmed that cases of cyclosporiasis in our state are connected to the ongoing multistate outbreak associated with recalled iceberg lettuce.

As of August 7, the Maine CDC has identified 27 confirmed and probable cases of cyclosporiasis in Maine this year. Ten of those cases involve people who consumed produce in Maine directly associated with the multistate iceberg lettuce recall.

Cyclosporiasis is an intestinal illness caused by the microscopic parasite Cyclospora. The current outbreak has been linked to iceberg lettuce sourced from central Mexico and recalled by Taylor Farms de Mexico.

What should you know?

Symptoms can begin several days to two weeks or more after exposure and may include:
• Frequent, watery diarrhea
• Stomach cramps, bloating or increased gas
• Nausea
• Loss of appetite or weight loss
• Fatigue
• Less commonly, vomiting, body aches, headache or fever

Symptoms can last for weeks if untreated and may sometimes improve and then return.

What should you do?

The recalled products have passed their best-by dates and should no longer be available for sale. However, if you still have recalled iceberg lettuce at home, do not eat it. Throw it away or return it to the place of purchase. Wash and sanitize containers, refrigerator surfaces and other items that may have come into contact with it.

If you develop persistent diarrhea or other symptoms - particularly if you ate iceberg lettuce during the two weeks before becoming sick - contact your healthcare provider. Testing specifically for Cyclospora may be necessary, as routine stool testing does not always include it.

This does not mean that all lettuce or fresh produce is unsafe. Continue practicing good food safety by washing your hands and thoroughly washing fresh produce under running water before eating, cutting or preparing it.

We will continue to monitor guidance from Maine CDC, CDC and FDA and share important updates with our community.

Today is the final day of National Health Center Week, and we’re celebrating Partners & Future Vision Day! 💙

As we wrap up this meaningful week, we want to recognize the incredible community partnerships that help make our mission possible. A strong community is built through collaboration, connection, and a shared commitment to caring for one another.

We are so grateful for our many community partners, including Maine Primary Care Association, Community Care Partnership of Maine, Community Credit Union, Community Concepts, Lewiston Housing, Lewiston Maine Police Department, Official City of Lewiston, Maine, and SO many others who support the work we do every day.

The strength of our community comes from the strength of our connections. Together, we are able to better support our patients, assess the needs of our population, address barriers to services, and create a healthier future for everyone who calls the Lewiston area home.

For nearly 41 years, CCS has been proud to serve this community. As we look toward the future, we remain committed to continuing to provide compassionate, accessible healthcare for many years to come.
