At VFW Post 5109 Auxiliary, service means showing up for veterans, service members, their families and our Lewisburg community. We support the Veterans of Foreign Wars through veteran and family outreach, volunteer service, patriotic education, advocacy, remembrance and fellowship. Locally, we preserve veterans’ stories, support veterans and families during times of need, encourage youth and community programs, and host and support events that bring veterans and neighbors together. Follow our page to meet local veterans, see your support in action, learn about upcoming events and discover ways to become involved. Guided by the VFW Auxiliary’s tradition of service since 1914, we remain committed to our motto: “Honor the dead by helping the living.”

VETERAN SPOTLIGHT | NOVEMBER SPECIAL EDITION
THE STORIES DON'T END WHEN THE UNIFORM COMES OFF
Put a few veterans around a coffee table, and the stories won't take long to start.
Some will make you laugh. Others will leave you shaking your head. And there's always that one person telling a story everybody's heard at least a dozen times.
But how often do we stop to ask about the stories they're living today?
For November, we're doing something a little different. Instead of featuring one veteran, we're sharing stories, experiences, and a few laughs from veterans across generations.
Because military service is only part of their story.

CHAPLAIN’S CORNER
The Extra Hour
Early this morning, the clocks fell back and handed us one extra hour.
In theory, that meant an additional hour of sleep. In reality, the dog still woke up on the old schedule, half the clocks in the house disagreed with each other, and at least one of us spent Sunday morning wondering why the stove said one thing and the phone said another.
The military taught many of us to account for every minute. We learned to arrive early, wait patiently and then hurry up because someone suddenly decided the schedule mattered again. These days, our calendars still have a way of filling themselves.
Between appointments, family responsibilities and everything else that needs doing, life has a way of using every minute we give it. It is easy to tell ourselves we will call someone later. We will stop by when things settle down. We will have that conversation when we can give it more time.
But “later” has a habit of staying just out of reach.
Most people do not need an entire afternoon or a perfectly planned visit. They may only need ten minutes with someone who is truly present. A phone call without multitasking. A cup of coffee that is not rushed. A chance to finish a sentence without having to defend or explain how they feel.
Giving someone our time does not mean we must solve their problems. Most of the time, people are not asking us to fix everything. They just need us to stop and listen.
That tells them, “You are not an interruption. You matter enough for me to make room for you.”
So while we are changing the clocks, this might be a good time to check on someone we have been meaning to call. Ask how they are doing, then stay long enough to hear the real answer.

WHAT A WONDERFUL HALLOWEEN AFTERNOON!
It was exciting to see so many children and parents arrive in costume for our Trunk or Treat at VFW Post 5109. The costumes were creative, the cars and trucks were decorated, and the parking lot quickly came alive with families ready to have some Halloween fun.
Thank you to everyone who decorated a vehicle, handed out candy, donated treats, volunteered, or brought their family to join us. Seeing the children smiling, collecting candy, and showing off their costumes made all the preparation worthwhile.
This was our first Trunk or Treat, and we are grateful to everyone who helped make it a fun and memorable day for our community.

Come enjoy decorated trunks, plenty of treats, and a chance to show off those costumes! Whether your little one is a superhero, princess, dinosaur, or something entirely their own, we'd love to see them!

Wear red today as a simple show of support for the men and women serving far from home, and for the families waiting for their safe return.
