SNAC (School Nutrition AgriCulture) Gardens Foundation is a not-for-profit organization based in Sussex County, Delaware that provides an outdoor garden classroom, dedicated instructor, and curriculum-based programming in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math), ecology, and health education at elementary schools in Delaware. Our program exists equitably across all schools, regardless of

the resources schools can contribute. Our mission is to transform schoolyards into vibrant outdoor classrooms and thriving ecosystems where students of all backgrounds, ethnicities, abilities, and socioeconomic situations have equitable access to quality environmental STEM learning and health education.

📢 Meet Noelle! 📢

Noelle is an artist and educator who loves helping students connect creativity with the natural world. She has six years of teaching experience in Prince George's County, where she taught visual arts, media arts, math, and English while developing engaging, student-centered curriculum.

Her love of gardening began at VCUarts after joining a community garden and growing her first successful summer garden. Since then, she has continued learning through a six-month organic farm work exchange and internships at Dumbarton Oaks and Foxhaven Herb Farm.

Noelle believes that art and nature inspire curiosity, creativity, and confidence. She is excited to support SNAC's mission by creating meaningful outdoor learning experiences that help students build lasting connections with the environment.

The zucchini is sprawling, the weeds are winning somewhere, and half the internet is telling you your garden should look like a magazine spread, but it doesn't have to.

The "tidy garden" standard didn't come from what grows food best, it came from status signaling, estate lawns, and commercial monocropping. And it quietly tells working parents, disabled gardeners, neurodivergent gardeners, and anyone on a budget that they're doing it wrong.

Wild gardens feed people. Dense, chaotic planting is often better design. And a bed full of weeds that gets 10 minutes a day still puts food on the table.

Your garden doesn't have to look like anyone else's to count!

SNAC gardens get kids outside, and:
+ let them explore the world around them
+ build their curiosity
+ help them connect with the environment,
+ support healthy habits that last
+ cultivate a love of learning at a young age.

This Summer, we’re expanding our reach beyond schools to youth-serving organizations in Sussex County in our new garden program at Weathered Eye Farm in Lewes. We’re looking for community sponsors to support this program, which helps us ensure that youth in Sussex County of all backgrounds and abilities have access to comprehensive outdoor, environmental, and garden education.

We have $100, $250, and $500 sponsorship levels, and every sponsor will receive a sign handcrafted by local artist and SNAC Board member, John Donato.

Signs will be displayed in the garden for the entire season, visible to our partnering youth serving organizations, Weathered Eye Farm community garden members, and visitors to their farm store.

Earlier this month, we had speaker Jackie from DE Center for the Inland Bays come to Georgetown Middle and teach about the importance of wetlands and water runoff!💧

Wetlands have many functions, some of which include:
- Improving water quality🚰
- Providing habitats for fish/wildlife🐟🦦🦆🐊
- Storing water and maintaining flow during dry periods💧🌵

Runoff keeps bodies of water full and causes erosion, changing landscapes by moving boulders and canyons.🌧️🛘
