Lucy ❤️

Lucy was surrendered to us in March of 2024.

Her lower back had been severely pecked. It was pecked all the way down to the bone.

It was so bad that you could see parts of her spine.

It was excruciating to see, but with guidance from our vet and daily care from Mike and I, Lucy completely healed.

For over two months Lucy was an amazing patient.

Mike and I still talk about what she went through and how good she was through it all.

Lucy is one of the most gentle souls we've ever met.

She doesn't like chicken drama and she absolutely positively does not like confrontation.

Lucy is the sweetest little hen.

We love her so much.

Every day we are grateful that she found her way to us. ❤️

Jackson let out a crow and got Mason and Myles answering him.

Then he went back to eating his flowers. 😊

With a piece of marigold leaf stuck to his beak, Jackson eventually answered back.

Then he went back to munching on his flowers.

This kid.

I absolutely adore him. ❤️

My friend and neighbor, Donna, helps me with DeeDee's foot.

Just about every single day, since April, Donna has come over to help with DeeDee (and Luka).

This week though both Donna and I have been sick.

I've been applying medicine and wrapping DeeDee's foot.

Today I wanted to try soaking her to see how she would do.

DeeDee got a little fussy, but she did great!

DeeDee is soaked and wrapped for the day.

It's good to know she does well.

Now we can give Donna a break!

Sam sleeps on the top perch by herself, but over the last several weeks Mason has decided he wants to sleep on the top perch too. And recently Patsy has decided she likes the top perch too.

I don't think Sam is thrilled about this new sleeping situation.

I'm pretty sure that Mason is loving being in the middle of his family.

When Mercedes, Myles, DeeDee and Lucy hear me coming out the front door, they run to their door.

One day I need to get them on video.

It's the most cutest, sweetest thing and always makes me smile.

One roofed run down and three more to go!

Luka, Taela and Stella's old mulch has been raked out and replaced with new.

I put their perches where their gazebo was and their gazebo where their perches were. It definitely seemed to create more space in their roofed run area.

I keep their gazebo in their space because they like hanging out in it and relaxing. The door is never closed so they can go in and out as they please. Taela and Stella also like perching on it. I discovered that this summer when I removed the top to clean it. Since they like perching on it, I never put the top back on.

I'm so glad to check this off of my to-do list.

My back is taking tomorrow off and then next up is the Mason's space.

The mulch yard gave us a little extra mulch when they delivered our order, which was super kind of them.

I'm hoping we have enough left over to add some more to the chickens attached runs.

Last week I had mulch delivered.

I need to rake and shovel out the mulch in the chickens roofed runs and replace it with new mulch.

It's my least favorite thing to do, but this morning I decided it won't get done if I just think about it getting done.

I'm going to do a run a day.

I started with The Luka's run.

Every time I need to go dump the wheelbarrow, Taela and Stella are totally ready to scratch through my raked pile.

Chickens are the best helpers. 😊
