Sorry yall - I know we just posted the calendar, but we’re going to need to cancel open sews this month.

We’re in the process of moving the Craft Commons into its new space but until we get our sewing machines moved, the loft is just too hot for any event. Thank you for understanding and we can’t wait for cooler temps!

Open crafts will take place in the new flex space!
That means no stairs!

Introducing: the Asheville Tool Library Craft Commons!!
In the coming months, our beloved Art Balcony will be moving into a different space in the Tool Library: one without stairs, better temperature regulation, and more natural light! With this new space comes a new name and new possibilities!
Our goal is to make this a true third space for our arts & crafts community. But what that looks like will need input from lots of folks. Are we doing projects together as a group? Focusing on workshops/skillshares? Are we hosting open studio time so we can work in community?

If you are interested in contributing time/energy/inspiration to something like that - join us for our first official Crafts Commons meeting on 9/6 at the Tool Library from 6pm - 8pm.

You don’t have to be a Tool Library volunteer or member to attend this inaugural meeting!

We’re welcoming 1–3 new members this year at the Asheville Tool Library. And this isn’t your typical nonprofit board.

Whether you want to roll up your sleeves, lend specialized expertise or advice, there’s a place for you!

Nice-to-haves (not requirements!): nonprofit governance, fundraising, legal, real estate, finances/taxes, inventory, community partnerships, or secretarial skills. But all are welcome to apply!

Check the link in our bio for the full info packet with everything you need to know.

Hi All!!
In order for our staff and volunteers to attend our Tool Trivia Night tomorrow evening (Wednesday, August 12th), we will be closing the library early at 6:30pm.

If any members have their tools due back this Wednesday and are unable to return their tools between 5pm and 6:30pm, Librarians will can extend your reservations!

We hope you join us at Tool Trivia Night from 6pm-8pm at The Mule at Devil’s Foot Beverage (131 Sweeten Creek Road). This is a sliding-scale, pay-what-you-can event, and every dollar raised goes directly to supporting the Asheville Tool Library.

Back by popular demand! We’ve added a new workshop opportunity for Demystifying Plumbing Part 2: Drain, Waste, Vent.

Join us this Monday, August 10th from 10AM-2PM to learn the ins and outs of drain, waste, and vent plumbing through hands on assembly using a mock-up bathroom. Participants will gain the skills to measure, cut, fit, and glue PVC drain lines, learn standard rules and reasoning behind different components and dimensions, and leave with a better understanding of what happens when liquids and solids go “away” down the drain. Leave with informational handouts and the skills to DIY!

Reserve your spot at drainwastevent.eventbrite.com and check out our other August workshops at ashevilletoollibrary.org/events.

90% of the time - when you talk to someone at the Asheville Tool Library, you’re speaking to a volunteer.

Since our beginnings we’ve been volunteer powered.

Some only volunteer with us for a few hours a month. Some are here every week. Some work with tools in their jobs and their lives. Some come here to learn more about tools because they don’t get a lot of interaction with them.

We hope that when you interact with them, you offer some support and gratitude that they’re keeping this community service going.

And maybe consider coming out to join us. We have two volunteer orientations planned this month.

Tuesday, August 18 from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM
Sunday, August 23 from 10 AM to 11:30 AM

Let us know you’re coming by RSVPing on our event calendar on our website.
