Join us this Thursday for "Classification as Outreach", presented by Julia Bullard.

Drawing on Tina Gross and Violet Fox’s 2019 “Authority Work as Outreach”, this talk will explore how inviting community into classification work can strengthen our relationships as well as our systems. Bullard will detail a set of related projects in which community-centered collections engaged users in assessment, revision, and direction for classification and labelling work. Bullard will also pose this form of collaboration as an approach to scaling and sustainability that sharply contrasts computational or automated means.

Symposium Spotlight: 26th Annual SIG-USE Research Symposium: Theories of Information Behavior 2.0 - Register today!

The 26th Annual SIG-USE Research Symposium will explore the use and development of theories in information behaviour and practice through presentations by leading experts and generative roundtable discussions. While there has been development and growth in use of theory within our discipline, there remain ongoing concerns that this is not sufficient and presents challenges for many researchers. SIG-USE has been active in exploring theoretical frameworks for over two decades. This symposium is an opportunity for members to reflect on progress made and identify areas for future research. In order to maximise discussion and generation of new ideas, this symposium will feature panel discussion to inform generative roundtable discussions amongst participants, and a lightning talk. This symposium is open to all ASIS&T members with an interest in information behaviour and practice theory use and development.
