At age thirteen, I got a job washing dishes at a local restaurant. Thirty-five years later, I returned to that restaurant with the BYBM team this Christmas. I shared my story with the waiter and gave him a gift.

Located in the Appalachian mountains, McDowell County has long been known for its poverty and lack of opportunities. It's often referred to as the poorest county in the United States.

With ProJet Aviation and Smokehouse Pilots, we traveled to the area in June 2022 on a mission of spreading kindness and delivering food, clothes, plants, toys, and books to families. We also spoke with some of the region's most influential people, who shared incredible stories. Their words could inspire possible solutions for the future of this county.
