Girls Can Camp Girls Can Camp is a camp for girls with disabilities in the Kansas City Area. We strive to provide a place for girls to learn, to live, and to grow.

As we wrap up the camp session, we like to reflect over the week, what we learned, what we gained, and what we gave. Camp is full of life lessons- teamwork, compassion, and kindness at the center of it all. At the end of the week, campers realize their growth in independence and their capability, while counselors think about the quiet nights, early mornings, pool time splashes, and scheme about how they can hold onto the camp magic a little longer. The end of the session always brings tears as we all reminisce on hammocks shared, smiles given, “Happy Birthday” sung and shouted, and laughter echoed throughout camp.

We are so grateful, as always, for another session completed with the most amazing people on the planet. 🤍

Extreme heat warnings call for lots and lots of time in the pool and hanging out in the shade. During our last swim, we conducted our boat ceremony, with each cabin dedicating their boat to someone or a group of people that impacted their camp experience. Yesterday was another day filled with camp magic! We started our day with a visit from The Sion Storm Robotics Team. They demonstrated how their robot works and helped our campers building their own amazing tiny robots. Then we moved on to glow in the dark bubble jars, crazy hair, and boat building for our boat ceremony later this week. After lunch and rest hour, we spent our afternoon in the pool before beginning our annual cook out!

We want to say a special thank you to Peanut for a wonderful staff appreciation soda bar and the Sion Storm Robotics Team for spending their morning with us!

The last round of introductions is for our team leaders! Team leaders help make decisions about camper activities, sleeping arrangements, and other schedules. They also support campers in activities and meals, relieve other staff for breaks, supervise rest hour, and plan and lead the cook out! We are so lucky to have team leaders with a combined 46 years of experience with GCC!

Introducing our Director, Assistant Director, and Nurse!

Clone and Original handle all of our paperwork- insurance forms, receipts, taxes, and registration- they do it all! They’re also always down for a walk or swim with our campers, or willing to help with anything their staff needs! They are also the bringers of popsicles. We are so incredibly thankful for all their work behind the scenes and throughout the year.

Rootbeer is our amazing nurse. She can usually be found with cooling towels and bandaids in hand. Rootbeer is the fixer of all ouchies and our campers are certainly indebted to her. Thank you Rootbeer!

Now introducing: the counselors!
Our counselors es**rt our campers from place to place throughout the camp, provide support in activities and crafts, facilitate gaga ball games, and are the champions of hygiene and hydration in our camp! We are so grateful for all the hard work they put in!
