There’s just something special about vintage glass—the way it catches the light, the stories it carries, and the memories it stirs up.
For me, it all starts at shows like the NDGA Glass Show. Walking in, you never really know what you’re going to find… and that’s half the excitement. Every table holds the possibility of that one piece you’ve been searching for—or better yet, one you didn’t even know you needed.
In my home, those finds have truly come to life. My Viking swung vase collection has become a centerpiece in my living room—elegant, bold, and full of character. It’s more than décor; it’s a conversation starter that brings vintage beauty into everyday life.
And then there are my L.E. Smith “Big Boys.” These statement pieces sit proudly on the floor next to my fireplace. Solid, colorful, and unmistakable—they anchor the room and remind me why I love collecting so much.
But collecting glass isn’t just about what looks good—it’s about what it brings back.
I can’t help but think of meals at my grandparents’ house. Watching food being prepared in Fire-King and Pyrex, fresh from the oven, then served at the table on Franciscan or Metlox Poppytrail dishes. Those weren’t just meals—they were moments. Family. Comfort. Tradition.
Those memories are really what started it all for me.
Before long, casual appreciation turned into something more. I found myself drawn to specific manufacturers, certain lines… and then the challenge began—tracking down every color, every variation, every missing piece. And like any true collector knows, the hunt never really ends.
That’s why events like the NDGA Glass Show are so special. Without fail, I always come across something I’ve been hoping to find—or something I didn’t even realize I needed until I saw it sitting there.
So yes… June 5th is already circled on my calendar.
And you can bet I’ll be standing in line before the doors even open.
Because you never know what treasure is waiting on the other side.
