Leander Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10427 and its Auxiliary.

Leander Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10427 and its Auxiliary. VFW Post 10427 (Leander, Texas) is an organization serving the Veterans of Foreign Wars & the local community. There are so many reasons to be thankful!

VFW Post 10427 from Leander, Texas works very hard to uphold all that it means to be a member of the VFW. For the Good of the Order the men & women of VFW Post 10427 join with the community to support our active and returned troops helping in any way possible. We should never have to be reminded what it means to be citizens of the United States Of America. Lift your head, stand proud & join our wo

nderful organization. The VFW traces its roots back to 1899 when veterans of the Spanish-American War (1898) and the Philippine Insurrection (1899-1902) founded local organizations to secure rights and benefits for their service. Many arrived home wounded or sick. There was no medical care or veterans' pension for them, and they were left to care for themselves. In their misery, some of these veterans banded together and formed organizations which would become known as the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States. After chapters were formed in Ohio, Colorado and Pennsylvania, the movement quickly gained momentum. By 1915, membership grew to 5,000; by 1936, membership was almost 200,000. Since then, the VFW's voice had been instrumental in establishing the Veterans Administration, creating a GI bill for the 20th century, the development of the national cemetery system and the fight for compensation for Vietnam vets exposed to Agent Orange and for veterans diagnosed with Gulf War Syndrome. In 2008, VFW won a long-fought victory with the passing of a GI Bill for the 21st Century, giving expanded educational benefits to America's active-duty Service Members, and members of the Guard and Reserves, fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan. The VFW also has fought for improving VA medical centers services for women veterans. Besides helping fund the creation of the Vietnam, Korean War, World War II and Women in Military Service memorials, the VFW in 2005 became the first veterans' organization to contribute to building the new Disabled Veterans for Life Memorial, which opened in November, 2010. Annually, the 2.1 million members of the VFW and its Auxiliary contribute more than 11 million hours of volunteerism in the community, including participation in Make A Difference Day and National Volunteer Week.

Today, Leander VFW Post 10427 was honored to hear Sr. Vice Commander Leka Robinson share the history and significance of Flag Day, reminding us that our nation’s flag is more than a symbol — it represents the sacrifices, freedoms, and ideals that unite Americans across generations. Through commemorations like these, we fulfill one of the VFW’s core values: promoting patriotism through education and remembrance. Thank you, Sr. Vice Commander Robinson, for helping us reflect on the meaning behind the Stars and Stripes and the responsibility we all share to honor it.

And on this special June 14th, we also celebrate the 251st Birthday of the United States Army. Happy Birthday, Army, and thank you to all who have served and continue to serve our nation.

Congratulations to the newly elected Department team!

I want to share an experience with y’all. I met and made a new and lasting friendship with one of our District 28 Posts (🇵🇦 Panama ), Commander Rico Adams. While sharing stories both US Army and US Navy, we discussed our passion to serve and help our fellow veterans. I learned a lot about my fellow Commander, and we discovered that he and I both were from Marrero Louisiana (would have shared the same Alumni Association with John Eheret High School), but my father moved us to Pensacola FL and that’s when the conversation got even more interesting. I also attended high school with his niece, whom is a close friend since 1995, and his sister was our cafeteria manager serving the best chicken I ever had. These lifelong friendships, connections, and passion to continue to serve is my greatest honor. God Bless our Troops, and God Bless America. - CDR

Day 3 of the Texas VFW State Convention concluded with an evening of celebration at the Awards Banquet.

This photo captures something special — a gathering of past and present leaders from Leander VFW Post 10427 alongside Texas VFW Commander Dave Walden. Within this group are decades of service, countless volunteer hours, unwavering dedication to veterans, and a shared commitment to making a difference in our community.

Leander VFW Post 10427 continues to set a standard of excellence through strong leadership, meaningful impact, and a willingness to serve wherever the need exists. The success of our Post is built on the foundation laid by those who came before us and strengthened by those who continue the mission today.

Tonight was a reminder that leadership is not a title—it is service, mentorship, and the ability to inspire others to carry the torch forward.
