Falling Forward® supports people recovering from catastrophic medical issues after insurance stops. Sadly, they face a life of disability. We're changing that.

Falling Forward® is fighting an issue that few people have heard of, but it impacts tens-of-thousands of people every year. Virtually all medical insurance policies have a "therapy cap" --- a limit on how much rehabilitation (like physical therapy) will be covered by insurance. Every year, over 1 million people suffer traumatic brain injuries, strokes and spinal cord injuries! These people need a

LOT of rehabilitation to recover and resume a happy, productive life. They do not get as much rehab as they need, because of therapy caps. We raise money that funds continued rehabilitation after insurance benefits run out. We're proving that RECOVERY IS POSSIBLE WITH ADEQUATE REHABILITATION! See for yourself. The best time to care about accessibility is before you need it.

When accessibility is treated like an afterthought, people are left asking for basic dignity in places that should have already made room for them.

Ramps, captions, clear signage, flexible seating, accessible websites, inclusive communication aren’t extras. They’re the architecture of belonging.

Did you know? After a major medical event, 95% of people are cut off from the rehab they need to truly recover.

When insurance stops paying, most survivors are left with two impossible choices: pay out-of-pocket, which can be financially devastating, or stop rehab before they’ve reached their full potential.

Aphasia can change the way someone communicates, but it does not change who they are. 🧠💬

Logan was a healthy young professional living in Chicago when months of headaches led to a life-changing diagnosis: a brain tumor that required surgery. Thankfully, the tumor was benign and successfully removed, but because of where it was located, Logan had to relearn how to talk, walk, and do the everyday tasks most of us never think twice about.

When her insurance stopped paying for rehab, Logan still had progress to make. That’s where Falling Forward donors stepped in, helping her continue the therapy she needed to keep rebuilding her independence.

Like Logan, many people living with aphasia don't recover 100%, but they're still adapting, communicating, and moving forward in their own way.

After a severe spinal cord injury during a hockey game, Jackson Drum was told he might not eat, breathe, swallow, or walk on his own again. More than a year later, after months of physical therapy and steady progress, he crossed the stage to receive his high school diploma.

No matter what doctors said at the beginning, he IS walking again. Recovery IS possible!

Stroke survivors living with aphasia: our rehab partner Shirley Ryan AbilityLab is studying a potential treatment that pairs non-invasive brain stimulation with speech and language therapy.

The study is for people ages 18 to 80 who are at least 6 months post-stroke, have aphasia from a single stroke, are fluent in English, and are MRI safe.
