Falling Forward Foundation

Falling Forward Foundation Falling Forward® supports people recovering from catastrophic medical issues after insurance stops. Sadly, they face a life of disability. We're changing that.

Falling Forward® is fighting an issue that few people have heard of, but it impacts tens-of-thousands of people every year. Virtually all medical insurance policies have a "therapy cap" --- a limit on how much rehabilitation (like physical therapy) will be covered by insurance. Every year, over 1 million people suffer traumatic brain injuries, strokes and spinal cord injuries! These people need a

LOT of rehabilitation to recover and resume a happy, productive life. They do not get as much rehab as they need, because of therapy caps. We raise money that funds continued rehabilitation after insurance benefits run out. We're proving that RECOVERY IS POSSIBLE WITH ADEQUATE REHABILITATION! See for yourself. Check out the videos on our homepage www.fallingforward.org Each person has gone from "disability" to "ABILITY"! Join us. WE STAND FOR ABILITY®!

Some rehab centers don’t just help patients move forward. They help the whole field move forward.

Falling Forward is proud to partner with three rehabilitation centers named to the Dr. Joanne Smith Memorial Rehabilitation Innovation Centers list: Shirley Ryan AbilityLab, Spaulding Rehabilitation, and TIRR Memorial Hermann.

This national designation recognizes rehab facilities helping lead the way in complex care, medical research, and innovation across the field of rehabilitation.

In other words, these are places pushing rehab forward, and we’re honored to partner with them to help more patients recover and to advance the science of rehab for patients across America!💙

During stroke recovery, fitness isn’t about “pushing harder.” It’s about finding safe, steady ways to keep the body engaged while the brain and body rebuild their connection. 🧠💪

Here's a helpful read on how to fit fitness into stroke rehabilitation (link in comments).

During Stroke Awareness Month, our board member, Dr. Dipika Aggarwal, was honored last week at the Kansas City Royals game with the Buck O’Neil Legacy Seat Award! 💙⚾

This award recognizes people who make a meaningful difference in the Kansas City community, a spirit that Dr. Aggarwal lives out through her work as a neurologist, stroke survivor, advocate, and valued member of the Falling Forward Foundation board.

Congratulations, Dr. Aggarwal! We are so grateful for the way you continue to lead and help others. 👏

This donor recipient update comes with confetti! 🎉

In 2023, 15-year-old Mari survived a hit-and-run accident that changed her life in an instant. Since then, she has faced more than most people can imagine, including her 16th procedure this April.

But this spring, Mari has also been busy living! She went to prom in a beautiful dress, proudly showing the scars that are part of her story. Yesterday, she graduated from high school! 🎓 Next stop: University of Illinois Chicago.

Mari, we are cheering so loudly for you! Your strength and joy have carried you through so much, and this next chapter is yours to write. Congratulations! 👏

We’re kicking off a new conversation series, and for Stroke Awareness Month, it felt only right to begin with our board member, Dr. Dipika Aggarwal!

As both a neurologist and stroke survivor, Dipika understands stroke recovery in a way few people can.

She offers insight that is equal parts personal and professional. Give this one a watch. You’ll be glad you did!

❌ Speech-language pathologists only help with lisps and stutters.

✅ SLPs support so much more than pronunciation.

Speech-language pathology can help people rebuild communication after a stroke, TBI, or other major medical event. That may include speaking, understanding language, memory, attention, voice, and even swallowing. 🗣️

Yes, SLPs can help with lisps and stutters, but their work reaches far beyond that. For many survivors, being able to communicate, eat safely, and participate in their own lives is essential!
