Ponding is a beloved activity at Sheldrake for local students on field trips. This week, we’re offering ponding to middle schoolers as part of our Wild in the Woods series for grades 6-8! Middle schoolers can get wild with us at Sheldrake this Thu 10/8, as we set out to do pond study! We’ll use nets to collect specimens from the pond; then, we’ll study our findings using magnifiers and high-end microscopes! Ponding is always a popular field trip for our Mamaroneck 5th graders, so get ready for some squeals and exclamations. We never know what we might find!

Birdwatching is cool 😎, and Sheldrake is hosting a guided bird walk this Sunday with Doug Bloom of Bronx River Sound Shore! Which species will we spot this time? Red-Bellied Woodpecker? Belted Kingfisher? Eastern Phoebe? We’re situated on the 60-acre Larchmont Reservoir/James G. Johnson, Jr. Conservancy (Westchester). Advance registration is required on the Sheldrake website.
