All LaPorte FC games scheduled for today, Saturday, September 19, are cancelled.

We make every effort to avoid cancellations, but lightning is possible today. Under our lightning policy, the safety of our players and families comes first.

We'll talk with coaches about rescheduling. Field time is very limited, though, so we may not be able to make these games up.

Thank you for your understanding.

Two U12 travel teams. Five years in the making.

After five years and ten seasons, LaPorte FC is fielding two U12 boys travel teams this fall. That's 22 boys who have grown into players ready to test themselves against tougher competition, and a group of coaches who can train them the way they deserve to be trained. Neither of those things happened quickly, and I don't think they should have.

I'll be honest: I've always been cautious about the travel sports world. It's easy for kids to end up spending more time in the car than on the field. Once you're in it, there's steady pressure to pay for one more tournament and chase one more trophy, and development of the player can quietly slip down the list. That world can wear kids down, and it often rewards the wrong things.

Still, there comes a point where players need to find higher competition to keep growing. Shortly after the club started, we set a plan: somewhere around three to five years out, we expected to have players ready for that next step. We're at the tail end of that plan now. I believe the patience paid off. We didn't rush these boys into something they weren't ready for, and we didn't skip the years of work that had to come first.

Last weekend both teams played their first games. Those of us who've been putting these teams together were holding our breath. None of us really knew how they'd do, because they had never gone far from the friendly confines of Kesling Park. They answered that question. They showed they belong.

Congratulations to our U12 boys on a good start to their ISL Fall travel season. Thank you to the coaches who got them here, and to the families who trusted the process.
