For many survivors of domestic violence, a beloved pet is more than a companion—they are a source of comfort, safety, and unconditional love. Fear of leaving a pet behind should never prevent someone from seeking safety.

At LACADA, survivors and their pets can stay together in our emergency shelter. Because healing is easier when the whole family is safe—including the four-legged members. 🐶🏠

Our incredible friend and supporter behind Little Dude Skeletons l.l.c, Stephanie Ssamper, recently welcomed Stella Daskalakis and the NBC25/FOX66 Mid-Michigan NOW team into her home to share the story behind Little Dude Skeletons™ — and then the cameras came to LACADA to learn more about our mission and the survivors we serve.

What started with one creative idea and a commitment to donate $1 from every Little Dude Skeletons™ sale to LACADA has grown into something truly special. Every purchase, every share, and every conversation helps raise not only funds, but awareness about domestic violence and the resources available to survivors in our community.

👩‍🏫 Teachers: You See It All—and Your Role Matters 👨‍🏫
As students return to school for the 2026–2027 school year, some may be carrying more than books. Children experiencing domestic violence may have difficulty focusing, show sudden changes in mood or behavior, withdraw from others, or experience increased anxiety.
Teachers can help by:
• Creating a safe and supportive classroom
• Noticing changes and checking in gently
• Following school reporting procedures when concerns arise
• Connecting families with resources and support
