Safety starts before the journey!

Service dog Sawyer is working on vehicle safety skills with Domino Service Dogs. From approaching the vehicle calmly to practicing safe entry and exit, these skills are essential for helping service dog teams navigate everyday life with confidence.

At DSD, we train for the real world because reliable behaviors and safe practices matter everywhere our teams go.

We’re breaking down barriers to service dog ownership, one skill and one team at a time.

Training Tip Tuesday: Spatial Awareness & Coordination 🐾🧠

Ever wonder how service dogs gracefully tuck into tight spaces under restaurant tables or navigate crowded aisles without bumping into things? It all comes down to body awareness (proprioception)!

Dogs don't naturally realize they have hind legs in the same way humans do. Exercises that encourage controlled, deliberate movement help them understand where their shoulders, paws, and rear end are relative to their handler.

Benefits of Body Awareness:
✅ Improved Coordination & Balance
✅ Greater Confidence in Tight Spaces
✅ Injury Prevention & Core Strength

Try incorporating simple balance boards, target pivots, or backward walking into your routine!

What’s your favorite body awareness exercise to practice? 👇

Domino Service Dogs was honored to stand beside Lily’s family as they gathered to celebrate her life and say goodbye.

In moments of profound loss, showing up matters. We were grateful to be there to offer our support, share in their grief, and remind Lily’s family that they are surrounded by a community that cares.

Lily’s life mattered. Her memory will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of those who loved her.

With love and remembrance, from all of us at Domino Service Dogs.

For our owner-trainers, every outing is an opportunity to build skills, strengthen teamwork, and develop the confidence needed to navigate the world together.

Training Tip Tuesday: Real-World Readiness 🛗🛒

Service dogs work in an unpredictable, fast-moving world. Traditional obedience classes are a great start, but real-life public access requires specialized exposure!

Practicing around everyday real-world variables helps your team navigate public spaces with confidence:
🛒 Rattling shopping carts & wheelchairs
🚪 Automatic doors & elevators
🍕 Dropped food & sudden loud noises
👥 Crowds moving in unpredictable directions

Proofing your training in real-world environments ensures your dog stays calm, focused, and ready for whatever the day throws at you.

What’s the trickiest real-world distraction your dog had to overcome? Let us know below! 👇

If our dogs could suddenly speak human, we’re pretty sure their first words wouldn’t be "I love you"... it would probably be "TREAT!" 🥩😂

Whether it’s an demand for dinner, a request for belly rubs, or a comment on that squirrel in the yard...

What was your dog’s first word—or what do you think it would be if they could talk? 🗣️🐶

Drop their name and their first word in the comments! 👇
