Empowering family childcare educators through professional development workshops & learning materials to enrich academic programs, support services, & essentials for families to improve their quality of life & well-being Zoila Carolina Toma, founder and president of The Toma Foundation, is a passionate early childhood educator, advocate, and community leader with over 14 years of experience in chi

ldcare and education. Her journey began as a family childcare provider in Lakewood, California, where she witnessed firsthand the challenges educators and families face in accessing resources, fair support, and quality training. Motivated by these experiences, she expanded her role beyond the classroom to become an advocate for family childcare educators and the families they serve. Carolina has served on multiple advisory boards, collaborated with local and statewide organizations, and facilitated trainings that empower educators to strengthen their programs and communities. Her personal and professional experiences fuel her mission: to bridge the gap between families, educators, and essential resources. Through advocacy, education, and community-driven projects, she continues to create opportunities where children, families, and childcare providers can thrive.

Family child care is one of the foundations of early education. For generations, family child care educators have supported working families, preserved home languages and cultures, strengthened communities, and helped keep the economy moving during important moments in history.

This flyer was part of the materials shared with families and educators at The Care Village Fair to highlight the family child care industry and the vital role educators play in our communities.

Parents spoke. Providers connected. Community showed up.

In this video, hear from one of the parents who attended the Care Village Fair and why events like this matter for families searching for trusted child care and community support.

The response to the Care Village Fair in Long Beach was incredible… so now we want to ask:

What city should the Care Village Fair come to next?

Providers — where would you like to see the next fair?
Parents — what communities need more events like this?

Los Angeles… are you ready?

More highlights and interviews coming soon.
