The Lake County Genealogical Society will present a free guided tour of the historic Kelseyville Pioneer Cemetery on Saturday, June 6, 2026.
The tour will begin at 10 a.m. at the cemetery, located at 4830 Renfro Drive, just west of Kelseyville off Highway 29. Visitors should exit Highway 29 onto Renfro Drive, and immediately turn right again into the parking area.
The program will open with a brief history of the cemetery, followed by a demonstration and instruction in grave dowsing. This technique is sometimes used by researchers to help identify possible unmarked burial locations. Many graves in the cemetery are believed to be unmarked due to the cemetery's age and the loss of markers over time through fire, weather, or other causes.
The Kelseyville Pioneer Cemetery contains burials dating from 1861 to 1884 and offers a unique glimpse into the lives of some of Lake County's earliest settlers. Tour participants will hear stories of local pioneers, their families, and the roles they played in shaping the county's history.
Attendees are encouraged to wear comfortable walking shoes and a hat. Visitors should also be aware that poison oak remains present in some areas of the cemetery. Calamine lotion will be available if needed.
The Lake County Genealogical Society extends its appreciation to the Kelseyville Cemetery District for its recent cleanup efforts in preparation for the tour.
The Society sponsors cemetery tours twice each year, in the spring and fall, as part of its mission to preserve and share Lake County's rich historical heritage.
