💬 Talk to Me Tuesday 💬

At Candy’s Cause, we believe that every family deserves support, resources, and a safe place to be heard. ❤️

Today’s question:

🧩 What is one thing you wish people better understood about your child, your family, or your journey?

Whether you’re raising a child with autism, ADHD, another disability, navigating pregnancy, advocating for housing, or simply facing life’s challenges, your voice matters.

Sometimes the most powerful thing we can do is listen to one another, learn from different experiences, and build a stronger village together.

Share your thoughts below. You never know who might need to hear your story today. 💙

Tomorrow is all about connection, advocacy, education, and community. 💜

We will be participating in TWO meaningful meetings tomorrow, Wednesday, May 27, 2026, and I would love for you to consider joining one — or both!

🕛 12:00 PM (ET)
📚 Statewide CARD Taskforce Meeting
Hosted by USF CARD

This month’s discussion will center around the powerful memoir The Secret Life of a Black Aspie by Anand Prahlad.

This moving memoir shares the journey of a Black autistic child growing up in Virginia during the Civil Rights era and offers powerful reflections on autism, Black identity, sensory experiences, resilience, and culture.

This promises to be a thoughtful and meaningful conversation for professionals, advocates, educators, parents, and community members alike.

💜 Then join us again at:

🕕 6:00 PM (ET)
Supporting Parents/Guardians Raising Black African American Children With Autism Support Group

This month, we are excited to welcome the Parent Education Network (PEN) as they discuss:

✨ ADHD/ADD as a co-occurring condition with autism
✨ Advocacy strategies for families
✨ Supports and interventions for children and youth

Our support group continues to be a safe and encouraging space for families to connect, learn, and uplift one another.

🇺🇸✨ Memorial Day Reflection ✨🇺🇸

At Candy’s Cause, Memorial Day is more than a long weekend — it is a reminder of sacrifice, service, and the power of community.

Today we honor the brave men and women who gave their lives while serving our country. Because of their courage, many families are able to live, dream, grow, and thrive in freedom.

As an organization that supports youth, families, autism advocacy, mental health, and Black maternal health, we recognize that service takes many forms. Some serve on battlefields. Some serve in hospitals, classrooms, homes, churches, and communities every single day. We honor them all.

Today, we encourage our community to:
❤️ Check on a veteran or military family
🤍 Teach our children the meaning of remembrance
💙 Practice kindness, unity, and gratitude

May we continue building a world rooted in compassion, inclusion, advocacy, and hope — a world worthy of the sacrifices made before us.

With love and remembrance,
Candy’s Cause 💜

Most people know me for my work in the autism and neurodiversity community, but I am enjoying my growth as a birth and postpartum doula. 💜

The other day, I had the privilege of traveling to the historic Overtown community in Miami to attend a Mobile Midwife Clinic. It is always such a meaningful experience serving and connecting with the community there. We were able to educate families about doulas and midwifery care, while also sharing free resources and important maternal health information.

One of the things I love most about the Overtown location is their amazing on-site care station that helps meet a variety of healthcare needs for community members — whether they are insured or uninsured. Access to care matters, and it’s beautiful seeing organizations work intentionally to support families.

And if you know me, you know I can never leave without grabbing a book for my little ones. 📚

I enjoyed playing with their awesome sensory wall. It was fun to admire the artwork and murals throughout the space because it reminds me how connected my passions truly are. In many ways, the worlds of neurodiversity advocacy and maternal health advocacy beautifully collide through education, support, inclusion, and community care. ✨

Happy Saturday! ☀️

Today I’m wearing two hats — Eagle Scout Coach and Autism Advocate — as I support and celebrate Tristan’s incredible Eagle Scout Project! 🦅💙 We’re out at the park sharing resources, connecting with the community, and enjoying a beautiful day of service, leadership, and inclusion.

I’m so proud of the young people in our community who are stepping up to make a difference. Moments like this remind me how powerful community, advocacy, and giving back can be.

💙🧩 WATER SAFETY MATTERS 🧩💙

Did you know? Children with autism are at a significantly higher risk of drowning, often due to wandering/elopement behaviors and a natural attraction to water. Water can look calming and inviting, but without proper supervision and swim safety skills, it can quickly become dangerous.

At Candy’s Cause, we encourage families to make water safety a priority year-round — especially here in Florida where pools, lakes, canals, and beaches are everywhere. 🌊☀️

Here are a few important reminders:
• Never assume someone else is watching your child
• Consider swim lessons early and often 🏊🏾
• Use door alarms, pool fences, and GPS/safety devices when needed
• Teach children water rules repeatedly and consistently
• Make a family emergency plan

For local resources, swim safety information, and community programs, connect with the Palm Beach County Drowning Prevention Coalition.

Helpful resources for families:
• Autism Speaks Water Safety Resources
• National Drowning Prevention Alliance
• Palm Beach County Drowning Prevention Coalition
• YMCA Swim Safety Programs

Let’s work together to keep ALL children safe, included, and protected. 💙🦋
