Happy Juneteenth!

Today, we recognize Juneteenth, which marks June 19, 1865, when enslaved Black people in Galveston, Texas, learned they were free.

Beginning at noon, the Stephens Hall chimes will ring 19 times in recognition of the holiday.

UL Lafayette will be closed today in observance of Juneteenth.

"My time here left an enduring mark on my life.” ❤️

Donna Moore never forgot what her time at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette — then the University of Southwestern Louisiana — has given to her. From introductions to great food to experiencing the beauty of campus and developing cherished memories, her years as a student left a meaningful impression.

Now, she is paying it forward.

Through a charitable bequest, Donna is establishing funds to support academic programs and student-life initiatives at UL Lafayette. Her gift will provide emergency relief and financial assistance to students involved in organizations that foster a welcoming and inclusive campus environment, as well as scholarships for students pursuing degrees in psychology or gender studies.

Donna’s gift channels her passions into a tangible legacy of empowerment and inclusion that will create meaningful impacts for students for years to come.

The University of Louisiana at Lafayette Foundation extends its deepest sympathies to the family, friends, and colleagues of Dr. David Barry.

During his time as the Dean of the College of Liberal Arts, Dr. Barry helped create more than twenty endowed professorships and three million-dollar endowed chairs - permanent gifts that will recruit and retain exceptional faculty for generations to come. He also championed the creation of new doctoral programs, expanding the University's academic offerings and opportunities for future students.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Dr. Barry was a familiar presence at Ragin' Cajun games, a fan of Francophone and Creole music, and a dedicated advocate for the University. Through his own philanthropic giving, he ensured that the causes and programs he cared about most will continue to flourish across campus.

Dr. Barry leaves a lasting legacy of leadership, scholarship, service, and generosity at the University he chose to call home.

Allen David Barry was born March 9, 1944, in Fullerton, CA, the son of Ray Lorentzen Barry and Esther Elizabeth Mathews. He had two sisters, Dorothy and Diana, and one brother, Robert. David was raised in Southern California and attended UCLA, where he began his freshman year aspiring to be

What happens when student researchers and a committed professor get the resources to pursue big questions?

🌳 Student researchers Izamary Lara and Clinton Vincent made a groundbreaking discovery studying oak tree leaves right here on campus and media outlets across Acadiana and beyond are taking notice. Alongside Dr. Brian Schubert, they've been sharing their findings and the potential impact this research could have across multiple disciplines.

Their story is featured in our latest Gratitude in Action series, made possible by the generous support of the Vernon and Ruby Langlinais Endowed and Non-Endowed Research Funds in Sciences. This is what the culture of philanthropy looks like at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. 💚

Each May, the National Trust for Historic Preservation and organizations across the country celebrate Preservation Month, promoting historic spaces and the benefits of historic preservation.

In honor of Preservation Month, we proudly recognize Chad R. Bushnell, an alumnus of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, for his generous planned gifts to the Hilliard Art Museum. Chad has established the Hilliard Art Museum Preservation Fund, which will support the expansion, renovation, and programmatic development of the A. Hays Town Building, allowing the space to house exhibitions, provide educational programming, and host community engagement initiatives.

In addition, Chad has designated another planned gift to support the Hilliard Art Museum’s art collection. “As a graduate of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, I am proud to support the Hilliard Art Museum with a contribution for the acquisition, conservation, and exhibition of art,” Chad shared. “My hope is that additional works of art will continue to enhance the museum’s role as a cultural anchor — a place where design, creativity, and the spirit of Acadiana inspire students, residents, and visitors alike.”

Thank you, Chad, for your support of the arts and for the lasting impact you continue to make on the Hilliard Art Museum and our community.
