The Maker City

The Maker City We bring together makers, developers, manufacturers, city officials, and entrepreneurs to create and develop a stronger maker community.

The Maker City started after a small team from Knoxville attended the first Etsy Maker Cities Summit in Brooklyn in May 2016. The team included a local maker, retailer, and city official. The idea was simple: to join 14 other teams from across the country, learn from each other, and walk away with an actionable plan to make our city more supportive of micro businesses. We left knowing that we need

ed to host a similar event in Knoxville, bringing together micro-businesses, manufacturers, and city officials in the same room. The ETSY MAKER CITY SUMMIT was held at The Mill & Mine on September 19, 2016. Alongside Etsy, whose industry leading online platform is driving creative entrepreneurship and manufacturing policies around the world, they explored what makes Knoxville the perfect “Maker City” through a series of interactive panel discussions about maker spaces, growing a business and creative manufacturing. Nearly 400 people attended the Etsy Maker City Summit, which kicked off Innov865 Week. Joined by Etsy representatives and the MakeKnox team, Mayor Rogero officially proclaimed Knoxville a 'Maker City' and announced the Maker Council.

Downtown Knoxville is getting a new mural!

We got our first look at the giant mural, created by Curtis Glover & Megan Lingerfelt and all we can say is WOW!

This mural features the work of 2 Knoxville muralists and can be found on the wall behind Able Trade in the Old City Knoxville. You can see the perfect view of it from the Gay St

Our next Maker Mingle is scheduled for Wednesday, June 24th at Good Kitchen. Maker Mingles are easygoing gatherings for Knoxville's creative community and we are excited to host our summer Mingle at one of the locations on our Maker Space Finder!

Come meet other artists, creatives & small business owners, share stories. No big agenda, just good conversations and good people.

Thanks to our beer partner, you can enjoy local craft beer from Xul Beer Company!

Join us at Knoxville's shared commercial kitchen, Real Good Kitchen at 2004 E. Magnolia Avenue.

Fun Fact: RGK's Founder Bailey Foster's idea for starting a shared commercial kitchen space in East Knoxville sparked (and ignited) while attending The Maker City Summit!
