In recognition of this alumnus’ distinguished technical career advancing space flight 🚀 and his contributions to improving society…

🏅 Gerald D. Griffin, IN A ‘56, is our 2026 Asad M. Madni Distinguished Alumnus.

We celebrate alumni who embody the ideals of Tau Beta Pi and foster a spirit of liberal culture on local, national, and international levels through our Distinguished Alumni Award. A $2,000 scholarship will be given in his name to a deserving student member of TBP.

Mr. Griffin received a B.S. in aeronautical engineering from Texas A&M University and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force. He was promoted to 1st Lieutenant before leaving active duty and then Captain before leaving active reserve.

After joining NASA in 1964, he served as flight director during all of the Apollo manned missions, including nine missions to the Moon, six with lunar landings!

The 2026 TBP Laureates have been announced!

Inspired by his passion for integrating engineering with community service, energy equity, and environmental stewardship, Karthik Boregowda, FL A ‘23, is recognized for his achievements in service.

Through her musical involvement in rehearsals, event performances, and concerts, Tova Fink, NY B ‘26, has created spaces where students of diverse academic backgrounds collaborate toward a shared artistic goal.

While serving as NY Beta’s president and vice president, Sadie Meyer, NY B ‘26, guided the chapter through a period of transition, strengthening the organization while fostering a culture of engagement and service.

After a lengthy recovery from a traumatic brain injury in 2023, Oliver Zhao, AL A '21, was elected TX Delta president. His nomination by the chapter proudly recognizes him “not simply for the breadth of his accomplishments but for a sustained pattern of contribution across artistic practice, writing, civic engagement, and student leadership.”

Hats off to the 2026 Tau Beta Pi Scholars!

This year, from 743 applications that were submitted, 256 Scholars were chosen. These students were selected based on the competitive criteria of high scholarship, campus leadership and service, and promise of future contributions to the engineering profession. Most recipients will receive a cash award of $2,000 for one year of undergraduate engineering study and a few will receive $1,000 for one semester.
