This weekend, we hosted our first Parent & Participant Workshop, bringing families together to learn practical ways to strengthen relationships, improve communication, and keep the conversation going—even when parents and teens don’t see eye to eye.

Led by Harmony Family Center, this workshop gave our Girl Talk parents and participants tools to connect more intentionally, listen with understanding, and navigate difficult conversations with greater confidence.

We were also grateful to have Pathways Family Center join us to share their perspective and offer parents the opportunity to apply for free therapy sessions to support their families.

At Girl Talk, we believe empowering girls means supporting the families and relationships that help them thrive. Sometimes, stronger connections begin with simply listening, being willing to understand, and making space for honest conversations.

A huge thank-you to Harmony Family Center, Pathways Family Center, and all the parents and participants who joined us! We’re excited to continue creating opportunities for our families to learn, connect, and grow together.

Our Girl Talk Life Prep Academy 11th graders recently stepped into the world of beauty and entrepreneurship during a career exploration tour at the Tennessee School of Beauty!

The girls toured the school, explored the training opportunities available, and got a firsthand look at a working salon. They also heard directly from current students about their experiences, career goals, and the many possibilities within the beauty industry.

At Girl Talk, we want our girls to know that there is more than one path to success after high school! Whether their future includes college, specialized training, entrepreneurship, or another career path, we want them to explore their options with confidence and curiosity.

A huge thank-you to the Tennessee School of Beauty for welcoming our girls, sharing your knowledge, and helping them envision what their futures could hold!

The future is full of possibilities, and we're helping our girls discover them one experience at a time!

44% GROWTH. 44% MORE FUTURES IN MOTION.

This year, Girl Talk’s Life Prep Academy grew by 44%, welcoming more young women who are preparing for what comes next. But behind that percentage are girls with goals, questions, dreams, and futures they’re beginning to imagine for themselves.

Life Prep Academy is a 10-month leadership and college-readiness program designed to help high school girls prepare for life beyond graduation. Through mentorship, leadership development, college and career preparation, FAFSA and scholarship support, and opportunities to explore their future, girls are building the tools and confidence to take their next steps.

And the 2026 results speak for themselves!

- 100% of our seniors graduated high school
- 100% of our seniors enrolled in a post-secondary program
- $740,000 in scholarships earned by our girls

A 44% increase means more girls have someone in their corner as they navigate applications, financial aid, scholarships, interviews, and the big question:

“What comes next for me?”

We’re not just preparing girls for graduation. We’re helping them prepare for the life that comes after it.

SENIOR SPOTLIGHT: SHERREA MCGHEE

We’re kicking off our Senior Spotlights by celebrating Sherrea McGhee! 💗

Sherrea is a senior at Career Magnet Academy, where she is already taking college courses and working toward an incredible milestone: when she graduates high school, she will also have earned her associate degree! 👏🏽

And she’s already making big moves toward her future. Sherrea has been accepted to three universities so far:
🎓 Northern Arizona University
🎓 Austin Peay State University
🎓 Wingate University — where she has received a $30,000 scholarship! 🎉

Sherrea plans to major in Criminal Justice with a minor in Psychology, intending to become a police investigator.

We are so proud of the hard work, determination, and vision Sherrea is putting into her future. We can’t wait to see where her next chapter takes her!

Keep going, Sherrea. Your future is bright!

💗 WE NEED YOU! 💗

Girl Talk is looking for two female mentors to join us at the Middlebrook Boys & Girls Club on Thursdays from 4–5 PM!

This is a simple commitment with a BIG impact. Each week, you’ll spend time with a group of girls, building relationships, encouraging them, listening to them, and reminding them that they are capable, worthy, and full of potential.

You don’t have to have all the answers. You just have to show up, be consistent, and care.
