Here at Community Defense, we see Juneteenth as a celebration of the Fight for Freedom. But that very fight continues today.

In every courtroom, we fight against systems that were designed to re enslave our people through injustice. This is happening every day across America, from disproportionate sentencing to the criminalization of poverty, mental health, and addiction. With glaring statistics showing that approximately 67% to 78% of recorded exonerations since 1989 involve people of color, the disparities within the system remain impossible to ignore.

Our fight goes even further, to where many of these pipelines begin from the classroom to the home where systems build cages based on third grade reading levels.

The fight for true liberation and freedom is not over, and as the system has transformed decade after decade, so must abolition.

We believe in community and an ecosystem that can provide for and protect itself. Community watch becomes community witness, and surveillance is replaced by relationship.

More than anything, we believe in community. We hope for a community that judges less and supports more.

Our core group is made up of people with different beliefs who come from different generations and backgrounds, but we all share a fundamental core belief: that everyone deserves equal justice and the right, access, and opportunity to fulfill their destiny without oppression and racism.

So today, we honor the freedom fighters who continue to fight. We honor those who organize, advocate, care for their communities, challenge injustice, and refuse to give up on the promise of liberation.

Continue your fight, because at the core of it all, this is one of the primary fights for freedom and liberation within this country.

Fight on. Fight strong.
And Keep Pushing!!

💭 What are your survival skills?

✊🏾 Why this matters:
Prices are rising. Food is getting harder to afford.

At the same time, Tennessee lawmakers are resisting efforts to expand food support leaving families to figure it out on their own.

When basic needs aren’t met, people are pushed into survival mode.
And in this system, survival gets criminalized.

That’s how food insecurity becomes a pipeline to incarceration.

We grow, build, and preserve so our communities aren’t forced into crisis just to survive.

🔥
They create the crisis. They criminalize survival. We grow our own and break the cycle.

🌱 BUILDING POWER WITH THE NEXT GENERATION 🌱

Two weeks ago, CDET was in Las Vegas alongside our family at De-Bug, training and building with a brand new youth participatory defense hub.

This is what it looks like when we don’t just talk about change we build it.
We pour into our young people with tools, truth, and real pathways to power.

the youth didn’t just show up they led.

Special love and recognition to our Youth Ambassador Star, who stepped up and helped lead the training.
That’s what it means to grow leadership from within. Not waiting. Not someday. Right now.

And deep gratitude to Taa for sharing his journey real, honest, and powerful.
Those stories matter. They shift how young people see themselves, what they believe is possible, and how they move moving forward.

This is why we do this work.

Because when young people are given space, support, and truth…
they don’t just become the future
they start changing the present.

We’re not just building hubs.
We’re building leaders, storytellers, and protectors of their communities.

The youth are not just the future.
They are the NOW.

🚨 CALL TO ACTION: FREE RICKIE SLAUGHTER 🚨

We’re reaching out for support for our brother Rickie Slaughter, who just won his federal habeas appeal after 22 YEARS of incarceration.

Let that sit.

A federal judge VACATED his conviction after finding that prosecutors withheld critical evidence and misled the defense.
No DNA.
No confession.
No fingerprints.
No real evidence that could have justified taking 22 years of his life.

Rickie has been fighting for his innocence since he was 18 years old.

And still… the fight isn’t over.

The DA is now considering RETRYING the case despite everything that has already been exposed.

This is where we come in. This is what community looks like.

We need you to show up RIGHT NOW:

✊🏾 1. Sign the Petition

📞 2. Call & Email the DA – Demand they DROP the case

They took 22 years.
We’re not letting them take another day.

This is bigger than one case.
This is about accountability.
This is about truth.
This is about stopping a system that refuses to admit when it’s wrong.

Tap in. Speak out. Show up.
