On this date 3️⃣ years ago (10/26/23), we were guest conducted by none other than Dr. John Zastoupil, as part of a wonderful combined program at Worlds Fair Park with the UT Wind Ensemble! We are thankful for our collaborations with that group, and for three terrific years since that night! 🍂🎶

THANK YOU to all who attended last Thursday's concert!

Along with the U.T. Wind Ensemble, we filled World's Fair Park and Downtown Knoxville with some wonderful music!
We can't thank Dr. John Zastoupil enough for guest conducting, and his spectacular ensemble for sharing the night with us. We also appreciate Dr. Stewart, Dr. Lyon, as well as the equipment/stage crew from U.T. who handled chairs, stands, and percussion equipment. Let's do it again sometime! 🍊🎶

TWS returns to the Cathedral of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, Knoxville, TN for our next performance, on Sunday November 8 at 6:00 PM. This is a can't-miss collaborative event headlined by our friends at Knoxville Opera, who would like to share the following:

"Join us for Knoxville Opera’s Voices of Valor, a powerful community concert honoring the service, sacrifice, and stories of America's veterans.

Held at the Cathedral of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus in partnership with the Cathedral Concert Series, this large-scale Veterans Day event brings together the U.S. Army Chorus; Knoxville Opera’s military chorus, Military Voices of East Tennessee (MVET); Knoxville Opera soloists; and the Tennessee Wind Symphony for an inspiring evening of music and remembrance.

Blending opera, choral music, patriotic favorites, and beloved American repertoire, this concert celebrates the courage, resilience, and humanity of those who have served while recognizing the power of music to bring communities together.

Whether honoring a loved one, celebrating our veteran community, or simply experiencing an extraordinary performance, audiences are invited to gather in one of Knoxville's most inspiring performance spaces for an unforgettable evening."

Our next concert will be on November 8, and will recognize US Military veterans (more details will be released soon). Last night we began preparations for this special event, with one of our own serving as a special guest conductor. Major (Retired) Bryan Ralls is our trumpet section leader, and former Deputy Commander and Conductor of the West Point Band! He had a 30-year career with the US Army, and most recently guest conducted TWS during a Cathedral concert in 2024.

Congratulations, Maria Castillo and KSO!
We are honored to have Maria solo with us in Sunday's concert at the University of Tennessee, where she serves as the flute professor. It has been delightful collaborating with her!

We’re pleased to announce the appointment of Maria Fernanda Castillo as Acting Second Flute of the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra for the 2026–27 season.

A native of Venezuela, Maria is Associate Professor of Flute at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Praised by The New York Times for her “virtuoso panache,” she has performed as a soloist and orchestral musician throughout the Americas, including with the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra and the Louisiana Philharmonic. She previously served as Associate Principal Flute of the Caracas Municipal Symphony Orchestra.

Maria is also co-founder and director of the Latin American Music Initiative, which promotes the performance, study and preservation of music by lesser-known composers.

Please join us in welcoming Maria to the KSO!
