Chatered in February 1935, the Nu Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., is a graduate chapter in Knoxville, Tennessee through the concerted efforts of our late Soror Fannie C. Clay, our late Phi Beta Sigma brother Dr. D. Flack, and Soror Carrie Williams McDade. Our charter members consist of Sorors Fannie Clay, Georgia Stone Davis, Almeda Ford Drewery, Valanine Williams Macklin, and Carri

e Williams McDade. We are striving everyday to continue with the legacy of our Five Pearls by upholding the principles of Scholarship, Service, Sisterly Love and Finer Womanhood with everything that we do. Like our International Grand Basileus Mary B. Wright says, we must continue "Building on the Principles of Zeta while Blazing New Paths."

Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated honors Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, as an historic moment in American history. On June 19, 1865, news of the Emancipation Proclamation finally reached the last enslaved individuals in Galveston, Texas, marking the true beginning of freedom for all.

We proudly recognize the efforts of our own trailblazing Soror, Opal Lee, the “Grandmother of Juneteenth,” whose unwavering advocacy helped make Juneteenth a federally recognized holiday in 2021.

Today, we celebrate emancipation, reflect on our ancestors’ strength and resilience, and recommit to the work of advancing justice, equity, and unity. Through education, action, and solidarity, we move closer to a world rooted in true freedom for all.
