$77 MILLION IN WELFARE FUNDS MISUSED — AND HOUSE ARREST IS BEING CONSIDERED?

In Mississippi, Nancy New and her son, Zachary New, pleaded guilty to crimes connected to the diversion of millions of dollars intended to help struggling families.

Their case is part of a massive welfare scandal involving approximately $77 million in misspent public assistance funds.

Now, more than four years after their guilty pleas, a judge is considering house arrest as part of their state sentencing. No final sentence has been imposed, and federal sentencing remains pending.

Think about that.

Millions of dollars intended to help impoverished families were diverted, yet house arrest is being considered for two people who admitted their involvement.

Meanwhile, countless Americans face incarceration for far smaller financial offenses.

Where is the consistency in our justice system? Where is the accountability?

These weren’t just numbers on a spreadsheet. These were resources intended for children, struggling mothers, and families trying to survive.

Justice should not depend on race, wealth, connections, or social standing.

If we’re going to demand accountability from the poor, we must demand even greater accountability from those entrusted with serving them.
