Phase 2!! July 19th from 9am-11am we are back at Historic Virginia Key Beach Park, for round 2 of sea oat planting with Miami Waterkeeper and City of Miami Government and sponsor Seatrees !!!!! We will be planting native sea oat vegetation to protect the dune system, increase biodiversity, and strengthen Miami’s resilience against climate impacts.! 🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱

This historic park holds an important place in Miami’s history, as it was the only beach designated for African Americans during segregation. It hosted family reunions, dances, and community gatherings. Today, it remains a vital green space, offering recreation while helping to combat urban heat and the effects of climate change.

In observance of Juneteenth, we recognize the culture, community, and impact. Juneteenth reminds us that true freedom cannot exist without the right to a clean, safe, and healthy environment, which historically and presently eludes many Black communities. "Celebrating Juneteenth from an environmental perspective means recognizing that the fight for civil rights and the fight for climate justice are one and the same. It involves honoring Black land stewards, farmers, and activists who have long fought for food sovereignty and environmental health. To truly celebrate Juneteenth, conservation organizations and individuals must commit to dismantling the systemic barriers that prevent equitable access to clean air, pure water, and the healing power of the great outdoors" (Sierra Club Ohio Chapter).

July 26th join us and Key West Aquarium World Mangrove Day!! Join us for a debris cleanup and propagule collection event. Last year, a significant percentage of the propagules used in Coastlove’s mangrove restoration projects were collected during this very event, helping support future mangrove outplanting efforts throughout the Keys. By joining us, you’ll play a direct role in restoring our coastlines, improving water quality, creating wildlife habitat, and helping our islands stay resilient.
