Music in Montessori is more than a performance. It is participation.

Through song, rhythm, movement, and storytelling, children develop language, coordination, imagination, and confidence. What may look like simple play is actually deep developmental work in .

In moments like this, children listen, respond, move their bodies, and act out ideas together. Music becomes a shared experience that strengthens community and supports the development of the whole child.

Grateful for the creativity and joy our Music Director, Mr. Jeremy, brings to the children each week at , where we honor the principles of and while nurturing healthy .

Today, we had the honor of welcoming State Delegate Jared Solomon to The Nature School at Montessori Living for Read Across America.

In Montessori, reading is not rushed. It is carefully built, sound by sound, symbol by symbol, and it becomes a foundation for confidence and connection.

But literacy does not end in childhood. It connects generations and strengthens cognitive vitality across the lifespan.

At Montessori Living, learning is lifelong.

We are grateful to Children’s Opportunity Alliance for supporting literacy in our community.

✨ Thursday’s Treasures ✨

🌱 Young Children’s Community
The morning began with children caring for their environment through cleaning up, washing dishes, loading the dishwasher, and helping with laundry. These practical life moments nurtured responsibility and a sense of belonging within the community. During work cycle, children chose puzzles, shape sorting, rubber band board work, bead stringing, and the mystery bag, strengthening fine motor skills, concentration, tactile awareness, and language. Music exploration invited rhythm and joyful expression, while outdoor time brought heavy work with trucks and hay, airplane watching, and gross motor movement in the fresh air.

🌿 Children’s House
The day opened with an I Spy sound game, sharpening listening skills and phonemic awareness as children searched for objects that matched beginning sounds. Work cycle brought focused engagement with sandpaper letters, name writing on the chalkboard, number writing, and sound boxes. Outdoors, children climbed trees, rolled down hills, and moved freely, building balance and whole body coordination. The day concluded with completing our Kindness Poster, adding handprints as a reminder that small hands can make a big difference.
Together we shine. Together we are strong.

🤍 A day filled with purpose, movement, and shared joy.

✨ Tuesday’s Journey ✨

🌱 Young Children’s Community
The morning began with breakfast together, followed by children caring for their environment through cleaning up, loading the dishwasher, and helping with laundry. During work cycle, children chose focused activities including bead stringing, shape exploration, and rubber band board work, strengthening fine motor control and concentration. Language unfolded through animal vocabulary, shared books, and songs, while chalk drawing invited creativity and early mark making. Food preparation brought quiet confidence as children peeled and cut fruit. Outdoors, fresh snow sparked rich sensorial exploration as children compared textures and joyfully sledded. Before lunch, the children prepared the table together, reinforcing responsibility and community.

🌿 Children’s House
The children gathered for thoughtful conversation about Black History Month, reflecting on peace, kindness, and caring for one another. These ideas naturally connected to the spirit of our Kindness Club. Outdoors, collaborative work continued as the children shoveled snow and delighted in creating a snow volcano. Stories about kindness deepened the day’s reflections. At lunch, the classroom filled with the harmonies of Sweet Honey in the Rock, as children listened with curiosity to the expressive voices, rhythms, and tones, experiencing music that carries history, culture, and connection.

🤍 A day woven with reflection, collaboration, and joyful discovery.

✨ Friday’s Reflections ✨

🌱 Young Children’s Community
The children explored rubber band boards, puzzles, and shape sorting, strengthening fine motor control, concentration, and early classification skills. Practical life activities unfolded throughout the day as children dusted shelves, watered plants, transferred dry materials, and helped load the dishwasher after breakfast, fostering coordination, responsibility, and care of the environment. Outdoors, sledding offered rich sensorial experiences as the children listened closely to the distinct sounds of snow and ice, deepening observation and curiosity. The day also included a fire drill, where children practiced safety routines calmly and cooperatively before gathering together for lunch.

🌿 Children’s House
The children enjoyed a joyful sledding adventure beyond the school grounds. Climbing, sliding, and waiting their turn invited balance, coordination, and gross motor development. Repeating the experience with enthusiasm nurtured perseverance, confidence, and shared delight in movement.

🤍 A day filled with independence, resilience, and winter wonder.
