Parent Encouragement Program (PEP)

Parent Encouragement Program (PEP) Offering the parenting classes and resources parents need to raise capable and responsible children. Learn more at http://www.pepparent.org/.

PEP's parenting classes are highly-regarded and in-depth for parents of toddlers through teenagers. "PEP is all about educating parents and caregivers, giving them the knowledge and the skills to raise more cooperative, respectful and responsible children-- that is, to become parents who are involved but not over-involved, who are protective without being overly protective, who provide without over-indulging, who can create a loving and well-functioning family." - PEP Founder Linda Jessup

🧠✨ Helping kids build focus starts with something they already have with them—every moment of the day: their breath.

When children feel distracted, overwhelmed, or “all over the place,” one of the simplest ways to help them reset is to bring attention back to breathing.

It’s quick, calming, and helps regulate the nervous system.

Try this simple practice with them:

🌬️ Breathe in slowly
⏸️ Hold for 2 seconds
🌬️ Breathe out gently

Repeat a few times—and notice the shift.

This small tool helps children build mindfulness, emotional regulation, and focus they can use anywhere.

Start simple. Stay consistent. 💛

😩 Parenting feeling heavy lately? You’re not alone.

Many parents experience burnout—and it can show up as exhaustion, overwhelm, irritability, or just feeling like you’re always “behind.”

The good news: small shifts really do help.

Here are 8 ways to start easing the load:

💛 Take small self-care breaks
🧠 Practice self-compassion (ditch the guilt)
👥 Talk to someone you trust
🌿 Build mental resilience over time
🩺 Reach out for professional support if needed
👂 Stay connected with your child through active listening
⏳ Pause and break negative thought loops
🎯 Focus on what truly matters most

You don’t have to fix everything at once—start with one small step.

Your well-being matters too. 💛

🌈 Happy Pride Month 🌈

Pride is a reminder of how important it is for every child to feel seen, safe, and accepted for exactly who they are. 🏳️‍🌈💛

For many families, conversations around sexual orientation and gender identity can bring questions, uncertainty, and big emotions. And that’s okay. Parenting through these moments starts with openness, connection, and a willingness to keep learning.

PEP recently partnered with Rainbow Families for a thoughtful conversation on supporting LGBTQ+ children and teens—featuring personal stories, practical guidance, and encouragement for parents navigating this journey.

✨ This free webinar offers insight on how to create a home rooted in understanding, respect, and belonging.

Every family has its own rhythm 💛

Some homes are loud and expressive. Others are calm and reflective. Some prioritize independence early, while others emphasize closeness and connection.

There’s no single “right” way to parent.

What matters most is what our children learn through the rhythm of daily life: respect, understanding, and the ability to relate to people whose experiences may look different from their own.

Children notice differences long before we name them. The opportunity is in how we help them respond—with curiosity, empathy, and connection.

Celebrating differences starts at home, in the small everyday moments that shape how children see themselves and others.

No two families parent exactly the same way.

Our backgrounds shape how we approach discipline, communication, independence, and connection. What feels natural in one home may look completely different in another.

But across every culture and parenting style, children share the same core needs: to feel connected, capable, significant, and courageous.

Yes—kids everywhere test limits, resist bedtime, seek attention, and argue with siblings. That’s not a sign that something is wrong. It’s part of growing up.

When we recognize that our parenting journeys may look different, but our children’s needs are deeply similar, it becomes easier to lead with curiosity instead of comparison.

Summer break has a way of arriving all at once ☀️

And while it brings more freedom, fun, and flexibility, it can also bring screen battles, clutter, unrealistic expectations, and routines that quickly unravel.

A little preparation now can help your family head into summer with more calm and connection.

A few places to start:
📱 Set device boundaries
👕 Simplify clothes and clutter
🎨 Focus on connection over constant enrichment
🗓️ Create realistic summer rhythms

You don’t need a perfect summer plan. Just a thoughtful one.

In a world full of parenting advice, comparisons can come quickly.

One family may emphasize independence. Another may focus on closeness and structure.

The truth? There is no single “right” way to parent.

What matters most is whether your approach reflects your family’s values and helps build mutual respect, responsibility, and connection over time.

When we feel grounded in our parenting values, it becomes easier to stay curious instead of critical when we encounter different approaches.
