The British Players Celebrating British Theatre in the DMV since 1964. Community Theatre based in Kensington, Maryland.

The BRITISH PLAYERS is dedicated to bringing high-quality traditional British theatre to the Washington area, and since 1964 has been delighting audiences with a wonderful recipe of humour, patriotism, music, dance and dialogue, with material dating from Victorian times to the modern day. Originally formed as the BRITISH EMBASSY PLAYERS, the group performed regularly for 40 years at the British Embassy in Washington, often to sold out audiences. Since 2005 our new home has been the Kensington Town Hall, in Kensington MD, and while the venue has changed, the shows continue the tradition and excellence that we have become known for. We perform three to four productions each season, starting in the fall and ending in late spring with the annual Old Time Music Hall. All productions are by British playwrights or are British in content and include pantomimes, Christmas shows, mysteries, farces, and traditional music halls. https://britishplayers.org/donate to make a tax deductible contribution that will help us continue to provide this content to the masses.

Thank you to everyone that came to our staged readings yesterday. What a turnout! It certainly was a fun-filled evening.

One of the best things about The Players is the community we have created, and we certainly felt that last night.

Thank you for coming out and braving the rain, supporting the cast and sharing the evening with us!

Hi I’m Chloe, the gal behind the British Players social media and marketing efforts. I’m a Brit based in DC who is a huge theatre lover, a dumb blonde type cast, and a tiny blind dog owner. By day I'm a marketing professional. By night I'm still a marketing professional, except now it's for a community theatre and nobody's paying me.

It has come to our attention that recently a lot of our Facebook posts are being flagged as A.I.

We wanted to address this head-on:
I am not a robot, and our posts are not A.I.

I am a real human who spends her Sunday evenings wrestling with Canva templates and muttering "why won't this text box align" at her laptop.

Everything you see on this page is handcrafted with my limited graphic design skills. No ChatGPT. No Claude. Just me, a Canva account, and whatever creativity I can muster after my actual job.

We believe that as an arts organisation (yes, with an 's', I'm British), we should be championing human creativity, not outsourcing to machines. The whole point of theatre is that real people make real things for other real people. Our social media should be no different.

So if you see a post from us that looks suspiciously well-designed, I assure you it's just a good day. And if you see one that looks a bit rough… well, that's most days.

Either way, it's 100% human-made.
Now please enjoy our upcoming shows before Facebook flags this post too. 🫠
