After 78 days at Friendship Inn, Norma is going home. ❤️

Today was a special kind of goodbye at Friendship Inn as Norma headed home to Dodge City after spending 78 days with us while recovering from a bone marrow transplant for aplastic anemia. Because her care required her to remain close to the The University of Kansas Health System, Friendship Inn became her home away from home, but her kids took turns being by her side throughout her long recovery.

Norma found that cooking was one of the best ways to pass the time during recovery, and she loved sharing her creations with the other families (and staff!) staying here. The delicious smells she created in the kitchen were 10/10!

Today, her son Omar drove Norma home, and while we’re going to miss her dearly, we’re so happy to see her finally heading back to her own home and her family after such a long road. Norma, we’re cheering you on all the way home! 💕

Some days a sweet treat can turn the day around 🍩
In the midst of a really difficult season, Ron and Larena found themselves craving something sweet — and thanks to a very thoughtful donation from Blackhole Bakery, there were plenty of donuts and pastries to go around.

We’re so grateful for the kindness that finds its way to Friendship Inn and for the little moments of comfort, joy and normalcy it creates for the families staying with us.

A little dough, a little sugar, and knowing that there's a community of support behind your fight 🎗❤️

How sweet it must be to be loved by these two. 💛

With baby Olivia’s dad in the hospital recovering from intensive surgery, being close matters. At Friendship Inn, Jessica and Olivia have a safe, comfortable place to stay just minutes away—close enough to support him, visit him and be together as a family while he heals.

Because healing is easier with the people you love by your side. 🏡

The words of a former guest say it best. ❤️Friendship Inn is here to offer families a little peace, comfort and hope when they need it most.

"I believe your facility helps ease some of the stress families are facing and gives them encouragement and hope. Thank you for going above and beyond to provide a beautiful, peaceful oasis in the middle of a time of crisis and uncertainty." -Jetta Williams, former guest at Friendship Inn

For Nancy, staying at Friendship Inn means being close by while her sister undergoes surgery, but it also means being able to keep up with work and have a comfortable place to sit down and breathe.

Sometimes you need a quiet kitchen table and a little space to keep life moving while you’re caring for someone you love.

That’s what we hope Friendship Inn can be: more than a place to sleep. A true home away from home. 🏡

Happy International Friendship Day. 💙

For the past month, Penny has been by her dear friend Jean's side at Friendship Inn as Jean undergoes treatment for lymphoma. Traveling all the way from Colorado, Penny put her own life on hold so she could be here, giving Jean the comfort of a familiar face while allowing Jean's husband to stay home and keep their family business running.

Sometimes, the greatest gift we can give is simply showing up. Friends like Penny remind us that love can look like shared mornings, long hospital days, and never having to face the hard moments alone.

Here's to the friends who stay, who carry the load, and who make the world a better place just by being there. ❤️

Chiefs training camp is officially underway, and we know at least one Friendship Inn guest who couldn't be more excited. ❤️💛

Kyle, from Emporia, is staying with us while receiving treatment for myeloma at KU Health System. Between appointments, he's already counting down to kickoff and cheering on his Kansas City Chiefs every step of the way.

We're rooting for you this season, Kyle, in more ways than one. Go Chiefs! 🏈

Summer at Friendship Inn has been filled with helping hands, and we're especially grateful for the many students from Saint Teresa's Academy who have spent their service hours with us over the past two months. From folding mountains of laundry to sorting and packaging donated bagels for our guest pantry, these volunteers have stepped in wherever they've been needed. It's the behind-the-scenes work that helps create a welcoming, comfortable home away from home for families receiving medical care at The University of Kansas Health System.

Interested in volunteering at Friendship Inn? We'd love to have you join us! Email [email protected] to learn about individual and group volunteer opportunities.

Home is more than a place. It's the little things that bring comfort when life feels anything but normal.

While her husband is resting following a stem cell transplant, Mary is making him a delicious homemade lunch here at Friendship Inn to celebrate their anniversary. They may be far from home in Alden, but Mary having a kitchen to cook in is keeping her heart and Steve's stomach full! ❤️
